Soooooo sad about my hair!!

I already have Hashimoto's. I am used to my hair falling out. In Jan, I started taking a steroid for a separate condition. I began coming off of it in May-June. Since then, my hair has been falling out. At first it was not too bad, but now it is falling out in clumps. I'm afraid to wash, comb in the shower, etc. I don't even want to touch it. I've had 7 births and have had gobs of hair fall out. This is worse.

To add to my frustration....
I was switched to a different thyroid drug because mine was recalled....but my dr didn't even do a level check. Then my GP left the practice....and I don't like the rest of the drs there because I've had bad experiences with them....and a month later, a month before my appointment, my endo left. So I got an appointment with my previous endo and they didn't have anything until November. Add to that, I get this awful panic when I see these clumps of hair come out. These aren't just 6-10 hairs. I get clumps of at least 20 hairs that are like actual locks.

I am heartbroken.

I did buy a bottle of Biotin and Folic Acid.
Please help!!!
I am so very sorry you are having this bad problem! I had my thyroid removed and I take Synthroid and I'm OK now. It seems to me if the docs can get me stabilized without any thyroid, they ought to be able to get you on the right track, since your thyroid still works somewhat (I don't know exactly what happens with Hashimotos).

I hope you find a really good endo and that will solve your problem. Feel free to post back and let us know how you are doing. I am convinced you can be helped and it makes me kind of mad that the docs haven't been helpful to you! Good luck and take heart.

I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....
Every day is a gift
I so feel your pain. Definitely find yourself a good endo that treats your symptoms, not just your levels. Make sure when they check your levels that they run a full panel that includes reverse T4 and T3 and adrenals. Most only run the TSH and the T4. You could have an issue converting the T4 to T3 and that can cause the hair loss. I am struggling with that myself. My thyroid was removed 4 yrs ago and still can't get my levels right. Everyone tells me levels are within range but I still have all sorts of issues. Also try to find a doc willing to discuss/prescribe dessicated thyroid drugs (T3). Lots of us do far better on that than a T4 drug alone. If you are on Facebook check out Thyroid Sexy. Lots of helpful info for those of us struggling with thyroid issues. Also look into Mary Shoman (thyroid advocate). Can you tell I spend a lot of time researching and dealing with this? Lol! Once you get properly treated your hair should stop falling out. In the meantime be as gentle with it as you can and try not to stress too much (easier said than done I know) as that contributes to it too.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I don't have any experience of your conditions but do hope that you find the help you need. At least here you can discuss this with those who have similar issues and maybe pick up a few tips. Best wishes!
