I did the big chop today!!!

Hello everyone,

I'm super ecstatic, today I have finally done my big chop after 8 months of transitioning. My last relaxer was February 17, 2012. I have about 3-4 inches of natural hair now. I can still do twists and maybe cornrows. I also want to note I did the BC myself (very proud) I knew it was time to get rid of the stringy relaxed ends because my hair styles no longer looked nice and it was super dry. I have some pics of what I have done during the process. I started with the sides and back of my hair. I am currently deep conditioning my new for with curl junkies curl rehab, coconut oil, and honey. I placed all my relaxed ends in a zip lock bag. I'm very happy with my decision. I'm finally #teamnatural 👏 Attachment 26635

Congratulations! I did my BC myself too, though my transitioning period was about 2 to 3 years, so it wasn't so dramatic. :)

Thank you! I wanted to transition longer but my straight ends were killing me. I have a decent amount of length for 8 months Attachment 26647Attachment 26648 this isn't the first time I had my hair this short. I had did a "bc" or mini chop in HS but I permed it after not knowing what to do with my hair. I'm loving my TWA and I'm prepared to love and care for my natural hair.

I did my BIG CHOP YESTERDAY! I am a very compulsive person... My original plan was to go 18 months before I did my big chop ...:blah5: .... spent my day at work watching youtube videos of girls who did their big chop.. and decided that if I didn't do it "today" then I will probably never go natural.... I have tried going natural many times and went back to the creamy crack ...

I literally got off work.. walked in the house.. went to the bathroom and cut my APL relaxed hair...:blob4::toothy4: .... it looked a HOT MESS... luckily my friend does hair so I went to her salon and she fixed me up nicely :angel11:

I've always been a "I need long relaxed hair in order to be cute" type of person .. mostly because of my mother... and boy was I wrong... I look finer without it.. lol

I'm excited about this journey and can't wait to see how my hair grows... I will be lurking to see what products everyone is using....... I'm getting sengalese twists before I go home (not trying to hear my mom's mouth)- mind you, I am a grown woman.. lol... shame, I know.

Just thought I would share my lil story! .. oh my last relaxer was June 16th so I am about 19 weeks post :blob3: wooo hoooo

Congrats your hair looks nice! I will be wearing twists and chic accessories like turbans and beanie hats until my hair grows a little longer. Plus it's getting colder and I need to keep my head warm :o) I'm excited to be full natural. I'm currently bagging my twists to add extra moisture to my hair.

TaRenee 11-01-2012 08:26 AM

Nice... how is the baggy method going for you?! I did it last night and liked the results I saw in the morning.... I tried it when I was relaxed... but I guess my hair wasn't thick enough to soak up all the moisture and oils .. bc it looked a hot mess! :banghead:

I really don't want to get Senegalese twists, bc I have heard good and bad things about them.... right now, I wear my wig. I'm going home for Thanksgiving, and I am pretty sure my mom will disown me.. :confused1:... if she found out I chopped my hair off.. so thats the only reason why I am getting the braids... I pray to God it brings me growth and not a disaster.

Congrats to you all who had the courage to do the bc. My mom has done it several times and she can rock a twa, but I don't think I can even though I look just like her. But her hair is a different texture than mine. Love the twa's :D

The bagging method moisturized the heck out of my hair. I slicked my hair back today with Eco styler gel and left the front in two strand twists really cute. I'm buying a couple of turbans and headbands to spice it up. I'm loving the short look so far 😍

@TaRenee your fro looks better than mine it has shape to it mine is uneven :( I usually baggy my hair with a medium conditioner and a oil like coconut or jojoba. The heavy oils and butters will just sit on your hair. I like to place two shower caps on my hair or a shower cap and a old hat for extra body to heat to be created

TaRenee 11-02-2012 06:45 AM

Aww.. Thanks! My friend shaped mine up for me when I first did my cut.. thats probably why it looks good.. bc when I originally did the cut myself... it looked like "who did and why" ... maybe you should just wait til it grows out more and see if it evens itself out.

I hear a lot of girls get a lot of growth with the baggy method... The End of the year will be 60 days for me.. and I plan on doing it every night faithfully!!!!!!!!!! So I guess we can just wait and see how it turns out.

Right now... I wear my wig when I'm out... when I'm home I let my scalp breathe .... So I think my hair is protected pretty well... but we shall see ....

I can't wait to see my progress about doing this baggy method for the next 60 days.

@TaRenee I'm protecting my hair with beanies and turbans when I'm home it's twisted. I've been using black Jamaican castor oil for I'm sure about results... I like Jane Carter's nourishing scalp serum better for growth. I was playing around with Eco styler but it makes my hair too hard and crunchy I can't wait to wash it out
