Hair growth/length maintenance?

Hi there! I have quite soft mainly 4A (I think) type hair that has always been natural although for about 3 years I regularly straightened it in an attempt to get something more manageable. I stopped that a year ago and something that used to happen to me quite regularly as a child started happening again: the hair started breaking from the back towards the front. I've tried increasing the moisture in my hair with water/hair custards/creams, I've stopped using hair grease and opted for pure natural oils, shea butter and cleansing sulfate free conditioners rather then shampoos and I've started using more protective styles and it doesn't seem to be helping. I really don't want to cut it all off and start again but I don't really know what else I can do. I am also gluten sensitive and so have cut out any products containing wheat or barley. Any advice or suggestions? Should I just keep doing what I'm doing and give it more time to work?

Did u cut off the breakage before you started the protective styling, sulfate free shampoo etc? Because even if you are caring for your hair, split ends will only continue to get worse unless you cut it.
Can you share a photo of your hair?
I'm not sure how useful these pictures are :/
I know you mentioned oil/moisture products, what about protein? How often do you do protein treatments? Remember you need a moisture/protein balance. You could be experiencing moisture overload. What about your diet? Do you take supplements? Are you taking medication? Sometimes medication can affect hair loss.
