I have very fine long hair. I shed like crazy. How can I help prevent?
My hair is very fine, though there is quite a bit of it. It is long (down to shoulder blades) and I am always loosing a ton of it. I know some loss is normal, but it seems like I can pull my fingers through my hair at any given time and get several loose hairs. It is always stuck to my clothes and I find loose hairs all over the house. I don't think I am loosing an unhealthy amount, but because it is so long, it is so visible. In the shower a ton comes out when I am cleansing and detangeling. How can I help this problem? Is there anything I can do to prevent so much from coming out?
Shedding up to about 100 hairs a day is normal. But if you feel like you are losing a lot more than that, you might want to see a doctor. Excessive hair loss can be a sign of PCOS or thyroid problems. Or a skin condition. Be sure you eat a healthy, balanced diet. Good nutrition is the foundation of everything!
My hair, too, is very fine, thin, and tangle-prone because my curls get matted up. I, too, felt I was losing way too much hair in the shower and afterward combing it out. After reading about it on Naturallycurly, I started putting olive oil on my hair (from ears down) prior to shampooing/conditioning/deep conditioning and leave-in treatments.
