Not sure if hair needs protein or moisture?

I have curly hair, in between 3a and 3b. I recently straightened my hair for the first time in 6 months, and the amount of breakage has increased. It was a little rough before though, and I'm not sure why because I've been leaving it alone.I only wash my hair once every 2 weeks unless it feels dirty. I condition every day, and use a hair mask or coconut oil soak about once a week. I realized recently that most of my hair products have protein in them, so maybe that's it?I did the hair strand test and my hair is definitely breaking easily--but not in all places. My hair closer to my neck is in great condition, and some strands have terrible elasticity, which I know means it needs protein. Some strands break easily and others I have to stretch for a while. So, I'm not sure what to do, because I don't want to make it worse.

Sounds like you actually do need protein.  Since you condition everyday, your hair may be experiencing moisture overload. Since you're also seeing elasticity problems, this definitely sounds like some work for protein treatment. Also, since your hair is breaking, this protein treatment will strengthen your strands and probably lessen this.
