My ponytail is a big matty mess. I will chop it off but what products are best for extreme matting?
Due to being bedridden for months, my hair was severely neglected. My ponytail/bun turned into one big knotty and matted mess. I see this as a loss cause and am willing to chop it off. The only problem is that once I do chop off the ponytail, how do I deal with the matting of hair that remains (there is matting leading up to and before the ponytail itself)? Please help me with any recommendations you have on products, techniques, remedies, basically I'm open to anything that can help! I am desperate to rectify this situation. Any advice and help will be greatly appreciated!
Hi KellyBaby, I'm sorry about your current situation. Matted hair will be really tough to untangle, but it's best to approach it with patience, and not try to untangle it all at once. Do this when you have plenty of time on your hands, and be very gentle with your hair. I found this great article that can help you: http://lifeofafinancemajor.blogspot.com/2011/07/be...As for product recommendations, the above link recommended coconut oil, yes to carrots, and Knotty Boy Ultimate Detangler. I cannot personally vouch for the last one, but I do know that coconut oil and Yes to Carrots are great options. Here are some of my favorite detanglers: Kinky-Curly Knot Today - the best!!! SheaMoisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Masque - this has so much slip it will help melt away knots. It's available at Target, or you can order it online. I recommend keeping it around for deep conditioning purposes. Once you cut your hair and untangle the rest, you're going to need to repair your hair from all the damage. Use that SheaMoisture masque above on a weekly basis. Leave it in for 30 minutes and then rinse it out. Sleep with a satin bonnet to protect your hair at night from your pillow, or buy a satin pillow. In your case, I would go for the satin bonnet first, since your hair is so matted. The bonnet will offer more protection. You should be able to find one at Target or Walmart no problem.I hope this helps. Good luck to you!
