The best way to choose ingredients/products is by hair properties and not curl type (it's transient depending on product, technique, dewpoint, etc.) Here's a link to help you with yours
http://livecurlylivefree.com/curly-hair-basics/ Once you determine your properties, go on curl talk and look for others with similar hair. See what they use and do. It's the best way to start.

My best suggestion is to pick up Lorraine Massey's book "The Curly Girl Handbook." There's so much useful information and it literally changed my hair for the better! If you search curly girl method on the naturally curly website lots of information will come up that way too, but really I feel the book is so much easier.
However, since you specifically mentioned products I can tell you what I currently use....
In general, I follow the "curly girl method" in that I do not use products with any sulfates or silicone based ingredients. I "condition wash" using Vo5 coconut conditioner. I use Nature's Gate aloe vera conditioner every time I step in the shower and get my hair wet. I use SheaMoisture raw shea butter deep treatment masque as my weekly (or more frequently if my hair feels especially dry) deep treatment. I use Fruit of the Earth 100% aloe vera gel, SheaMoisture coconut and hibiscus curling smoothie as styling products (not always together, sometimes independent of each other, just depends on what I need that day). I also use a silk pillowcase at night, and use a t-shirt to dry my hair from the shower instead of a cotton terrycloth towel.
Hope this helps!
