What am I doing wrong when shampooing?

I've been having a flaky scalp lately when I wash my hair at home. I've gone to my regular salon (Fekkai) for a conditioning treatment and blow out... no flaky scalp. My stylist at Fekkai wasn't available over the weekend, so on a whim I booked at John Barrett... no flaky scalp. Both my regular stylist and the JB stylist looked at my hair prior to the treatment and said it is not dandruff. What on earth am I doing wrong?? I'm not made of money so I can't have a shampoo, conditioner, and blowout every week! I've ordered a hand held shower filter from Amazon, hoping that helps. Anyone else ever experience something as bizarre as this?? All I can think of is that it's product buildup. But I'm already rinsing my shampoo out for 3 minutes (I time it) and my conditioner for 5. I have fine/med textured curly hair. I have a lot of it, but it's definitely not super thick. This is so incredibly frustrating... I know these questions are incredibly dumb, but after dealing with stress related hair loss over the last three years (and it finally getting back to what it was), it's as if I'm learning all over again how to care for my hair.

If you are using shampoo with sulfates you could be experiencing dryness on your scalp! Switch to no-poo or co-wash and you will likely not have that issue since it's not legitimately dandruff.--------------------
