Strange flakes that may or may not be dandruff?

I know this sounds disgusting, but I have strange flakes/build up on my hair. It builds up mostly on the front crown-area of my scalp, and is usually in large white, dry flakes. It doesn't move from my scalp, is only occasionally itchy, and doesn't come out unless I pick it out myself. I've had dandruff before, but it was extremely itchy, but I was able to get rid of it. I usually just pick off these flakes, but I'm starting to think that it's making the hair from my crown fall out/ thinner. Please help

I was going to say seborrheic dermatitis but if its not oily that's most likely not it. It could honestly just be dandruff. I've had what youre describing before and it was being caused by Hormones from the birth control I was on (the nexplanon). I went to a dermatologist and she told me it was dandruff just in larger forms. She said stress will make it worse and that I should wash my hair once a week instead of twice, and to use a dandruff shampoo. I use Selsum blue once every two weeks or as needed and it helped after 2 uses. I interchange it with Head and Shoulders because for whatever reason only using selsum blue it seemed like my scalp got used to it so I switched it up.I hope this helps! xo
I'll give it a try. It makes sense because lately I've been washing my hair everyday, using a non dandruff shampoo. Ever since I first got rid of my dandruff, I quit using the dandruff shampoo cold turkey.  Thanks so much!
