what dye won't dry my hair out

1 Answer

All hair color causes SOME level of damage to the hair, since you are forcing the cuticle (outer layer) to open, then using chemicals to force dye molecules to enter the hair shaft. The best colors are no-ammonia, demi-permanent colors, or oil-delivery colors. Don't be fooled by the term demi-permanent, though, because in actuality, they last just as long as permanent colors, they simply cannot lighten as much as permanent colors. Oil-delivery colors use an oil base, rather than ammonia, to force the color molecules into the hair, so damage is less of a problem. But at the end of the day, you can't color your hair at home and avoid damage and drying. Home hair color is harsh and causes damage and color build up that can end up costing you way more money than you ever saved by coloring your hair at home.
