what's the difference between a smooth all natural shea butter and one with a grittier texture?

I recently started using all natural Shea butter in my hair regimen. So far I've tried two different brands. The first was smooth and seemed to give more moisture to my hair, the second is more gritty in texture. I've been using it for about two weeks but haven't been getting the same results. Prior to using it I did do an Apple cidar vinegar rinse on my hair, which I know can dry out hair. So Id like to know is there possibly some chemical difference in the two textures of butter making the smooth one more effective for my hair or should I continue to try the newer product. Also if there is a difference what should I look for on labels to differentiate between the smooth Shea butter and the textured one?
