HAIR SEVERELY THINNED DUE TO STRAIGHTENING

I used to have extremely long, thick curly hair when I was younger. I started straightening my hair ever since the 8th grade and I never stopped.. I am now a freshman in college and I still straighten my hair on a regular. Luckily, my hair is still very curly. BUT, my hair thinned out so much, I cant even put it up in a pony tail because it looks like a string. It does not grow past my boob. I want to regain the thickness of my hair. How can I do that? I am willing to stop straightening my completely, what are products I should use on my curly hair? what vitamins should I take? is it even possible for me to regain that thickness?
