What products and tools should I use to straighten my natural 4a low porosity hair?
I have natural 4a, low porosity hair that I want to flat iron, but i don't know which products will give me the best results. In the past i've use TRESemme heat protectant, aussie leave in conditioner and Aphogee leave in conditioner. Aphogee gave me the best results, but not quite the look I was aiming for. Once I flat iron my hair, I have a hard time wrapping it. It's always bulky, dry and wants to revert back. According to this site hair milk is a good product to use for low porosity hair, so was thinking of using Soft & Beautiful's Just For me hair straightening mist. I also own a remington frizz therapy flat iron and was wondering if anyone has had good experiences using it. I am not sure if my flat iron is the problem or if it is the products i'm using. I also would like a recommendation on the products I could use to moisturize my hair once it is straight. Thanks.

Do you want to try to embrace your natural texture instead of straightening it?
Our hair sounds similar and I've only had one successful straightening since going natural 5 months ago. The first attempt was done by a Cosmetology student who was not equipped to handle my hair. It was bulky, reverted, and at the end of the day, my hair was a hot mess with heat damage. The second, and successful, attempt was done by a licensed, trained, natural stylist with years of experience. I am not sure what products she used, but I do know she used a flat iron with a really high heat. In your case, I dont think it's the products. It sounds like you have the correct products. Be sure that you are using a good heat protector. Also, I have heard some youtubers talk about lubrication as a factor that can effect how well your straightening goes. So don't be afraid to pull out some good ole cream press. It also sounds like your hot tools are well equipped to handle your hair- you may have to turn the heat up a little bit to get the results you are looking for. I would warn against this because you could easily damage your hair at those higher temps but my stylist said its healthier to go over hair ONE time with high heat then MULTIPLE times at a medium to low heat. The latter option equates to more heat being used over the course of the straightening sessions than the first option. Also be sure that your ends are trimmed and your hair has a good moisture/protein balance. Rough ends and not enough moisture or protein can effect how well your straightening sessions go. Hope this helps!
