How to I get my hair to have less volume?

My hair is about shoulder length (type 3A) and I shower at night. After my shower I flip my head upside-down and scrunch my hair to get out all of the excess water. I scrunch in mousse and then gel with my head upside down too and then go to sleep with my hair kind of spread out on my pillow so it dries better. I wake up and my hair always seems to have too much volume. It gets rather poofy and frizzy as well. Is there a different routine I should be using? Thanks!

doing things upside down adds volume to your hair....just take that out of your routine, (maybe sideways, just tilt your head to the side and scrunch).  Try using a microfiber towel(microfiber reduces frizz) and blot a little, and scrunch just a little less to create less volume.
