"Scrunching" out gel?

On a lot of the product reviews for gels and tips and whatnot, I see people talking about 'scrunching' out the crunch? I'm a little confused on what this means. Is this literally taking your hand and scrunching your curls when they're dry and crunchy from the gel? It sounds weird to me and I wanted to make sure I read this correctly.

It is exactly what it sounds like. When your hair is completely dry, scrunch your hair with your hands to break up the gel cast. Some people use a pomade or butter to scrunch, but I prefer using dry hands. I also stick my fingers by the roots of my hair and shake to add volume.
You can also take a little bit of conditioner and put it on your hands and scrunch  to break the gel cast.
