Box Braids on long 18" 4b/c hair?
Hi everyone, I'm 21 have been fully natural for 2 years, I transitioned for 2.5 years and my hair is currently ~18/19 inches. The reason I went natural was because of a stylist lol, I went to get box braids and before I knew it half of my hair was on the floor. In the last 4.5 years I have worn buns. I'm actually surprised my hair has grown this much from high & low buns. Lately I've been feeling frustrated, I'm tired of my hair, it needs to go away for a while but I don't know what to do. I've been thinking of box braids however I don't know if with my length they will do more damage than good. Last summer I was set on getting them, however whenI went to the stylist she ended up not doing them. I expressed to her my hair was shedding badly, she then suggested I go to doctor to check of everything is ok & come back another time. It took me a while to gather up the courage to go to a doctor because my mother (in the medical field) had been suspecting a life long condition & mentally I wasn't in a position to hear the doctor tell me I'll have to take medication for the rest of my life. Eventually I did & thankfully everything came back fine.Anyway, the stylist suggested I stick to wigs, crotchet braids & sew ins. She even said braids weren't really for my length, I should've gotten them way before in my hair journey. I love box braids but if it means losing my hair then I am better off not getting them & sticking with crotchet braids & sew ins. I must add, I have never had either of those. I need change, even my dad who knows nothing about hair keeps mentioning how I've had the same hairstyle for 5 years - the bun. All comments/advice welcome :)
