How can I make my hair less frizzy, puffy, and tangled?

I have long, very thick 2B hair. After I wash my hair, it's always a frizzy, poofy, tangled mess!! (I've even had it likened to a mop once) After I brush it, all the (natural) curls fall out and it quickly tangles again and again, no matter how many times I brush it. The worst part is that it's constantly frizzy and puffy, and quickly loses the definition once I brush it out. I shower at night and sleep on it, and it's usually wet (this may have something to do with it, however the one time I let it completely air-dry before going to bed I only saw marginally better results). I rarely heat-style, and I really have no products I regularly use on my hair besides shampoo and conditioner. Are there any good products/shampoos/conditioners or styling tricks I can try?

Hello Hellosunshine, Sounds like you need a better shampoo and conditioner. A really good shampoo won't tangle your hair as easily, and a really good conditioner will help you detangle (and stay that way) in the shower. I'm loving Jessicurl shampoo and conditioner products right now, but you can't go wrong with MopTop Daily conditioner either. UR Curly Soya Shampoo is also amazing - but really strong smelling with the peppermint and eucalyptus scent. Elucence shampoo is another classic curly favorite...really cheap too. All of these will help your hair stay smooth and soft.I also wouldn't recommend brushing your hair when it's dry. If you really want to brush to detangle, wet your hair with a spray bottle and apply a good detangler. Kinky-Curly Knot Today is the best detangler out there! Anything with marshmallow root is going to be super slippery, and will help with those knots. Also - highly recommend the Wet Brush. It really makes detangling super simple. I also recommend sleeping in a satin bonnet to avoid tangles the next day. You won't be completely tangle free (who is? lol) but you should get it to a comfortable standing. OR...If you like to sleep with your hair wet, try plopping overnight. My co-worker swears by it! I'll attach a video so you can learn how. To keep your hair soft and detangled, be sure to use a leave-in conditioner that will help define and moisturize. Kinky-Curly Knot Today is a great detangler, but I've personally never tried styling with it. You can try that, or you can try Camille Rose Naturals Leave-In. Hope this helps!
