I need help with styling my 2a-b hair!!

My hair is so unpredictable. I have tried almost everything to get it to look wavy and not get weighed down and look straight by product or too crunchy with other products. I stopped straightening it and haven't used any heat tools for about a month, and haven't used sulfates/silicones/parabens for about 2 months, but nothing seems to work.

My roommate has type 2B & adores Ion Lusterizing Cream (approx. $10 from Sally Beauty). If she uses it with wet hair, it defines the curls & if she uses it with dry hair, it combats frizz. Sometimes, right out of the shower, she'll apply it & French braid her hair. When her hair dries, she takes out the braid & has gorgeous, jealousy-inducing waves. She also uses Biosilk Silk Therapy Serum when she straightens her hair or wants a sleek blowout. As strange as it sounds, you may want to seek out some Asian brands. Their products are usually designed to be lightweight, yet moisturizing. Many people think Asian hair = pin straight, but that's not the case. I work with a Korean girl with natural type 3A hair!
