Is my daughter losing her curl!? What can I do to bring it back?

My 3 year old daughter is mixed race (half white, a quarter mexican and a quarter African-american). She has beautiful curly hair, but as it's getting longer, it's getting straighter. Up until about age 2 she had a little Afro of tight ringlets, but now her hair is about shoulder length and the top layer particularly is very straight. I've had it trimmed thinking that would bring the curl back, but it just cut the curl off and left the shorter pieces straight. I've never used any heat on it, I only shampoo once a week and use good quality products; I don't know what to do! I absolutely love my daughters curls and hope there is a way to encourage them back! Any help/tips/advice would be greatly appreciated. I have attached 4 pictures; the first was taken yesterday and is how her hair is now, the second 2 are from over a year ago, and the last one is from when she was about 11 months old.
