After reading reviews on this website, I made an appt. with Dawn. She cancelled at the last minute. I rescheduled, She cancelled again at the last minute. When I finally got an appt. that she kept, she cut holes into my hair that I am still trying to grow out.
She chopped holes into my hair that took forever to grow out. Prior to that, she cancelled numerous appt's I had made after reading reviews here. Each time she cancelled at the last minute. Totally unprofessional.
Dawn is fabulous! She takes any amount of time needed to cut, color and highlight my hair, and will show me how to style it in any way that I ask. Her curly cut keeps my fine hair super curly and I've never had so many compliments on the color and highlights. It makes me feel good to have so many people telling me how great my hair looks! And she never pushes products, but will answer any questions about the ones she uses and what's carried in the salon. If you only want certain products used and bring them, she'll use them without ever trying to talk you into something new. I'm so glad I found Dawn!
I finally found someone that knows how to cut my hair! Dawn has been trained in the Deva salon in Manhatten, and is extremely knowledgeable about curly hair. She spent a lot of time explaining to me what I should and shouldnt be doing at home. Its been about 2 months since she cut my hair and it is still fairly easy to style. Wont let anyone else touch it now!
Dawn was so great! She doesn't have curly hair, but she completely understands it. It's been awhile since I got a cut (it grew out well) but I plan on going back to her soon!
I just had my 2nd appt with Dawn and she is fantastic. I was there for FOUR hours. Deva cut, color, highlights... I got the works. We were there until 9pm and never once did it seem like she was restless or looking to leave or upset that the highlights were taking so long. (I have a lot of hair.) She even was potentially late for a party. (It ended up being the next night. A surprise birthday party.) She went over my hair and we talked about other things I can do to help the curl. She was so knowledgable, oh, and she won the "Best of RI 2010". I can not say enough good things about her.
I absolutely loved Dawn and she is a phenominal hair stylist. She really understands curly hair and was not shy about telling me what she was doing and why. Everything she said to me made sense about how to care for my hair and how often to condition it, etc. She was very reasonable in price and will not try to sell you a bunch of products. I am a product junkie and I have tried everything there is to tame my curly hair. She was adamant that if something worked for me, then I shouldn't stop using it just because it wasn't what she was using in the salon. She also told me to watch out for certain ingrediants when shopping for products. Dawn is a curly hair specialist and I trust her with my hair. You should too.
I am so happy I found Dawn through reading Internet reviews like this! My fine curly hair had become dry and flyaway from winter conditions and some over-processing, and also I was struggling with a very unflattering haircut. Dawn first and foremost focused on me, listening, asking questions, looking through my hair growth patterns. She began offering suggestions and carefully figuring out what to do. She gave me two treatments to help revitalize my hair, and then gave me a beautiful, edgy and very flattering cut. During this process she continued to ask me questions about my hair so she could get the best understanding of it (my preferences for styling, how much time I wanted to spend on it, etc). Dawn also took the time to show me how to style this cut wearing it curly, and wearing it straight! This was so helpful to be able to see the possibilities. After months of frustration and disappointment with the way I looked, I am thrilled with my hair and the compliments I am receiving. I finally have a truly excellent hair stylist and she keeps her services very affordable! Barbara

I was thrilled to find this salon on this site about Dawn, the curly hair stylist. I called her number and left her a message telling her how happy I was to find out about her, especially since my daughter's wedding was just weeks away and I needed someone who specializes in curly hair to help me with a hair style for the wedding. She called me back days later with a message that she would be away for a few days but had time available for me the coming Thurs. and not to worry she would have beautiful hair for the wedding and she would find time for me. I called her back(needed to leave a message)and thanked her for the Thurs. appt and to please let me know what time. She never got in touch with me. I would say she is a strange, very rude person who greatly disappointed me. However,I had the great fortune to find the book, Curly Girl and was able to style my own hair for the wedding. I still need to find a curly hair stylist when I need a haircut. I am so frustrated at how difficult this has been. All my friends have straight hair.
Dawn cut my hair this past week for the first time, and I cannot say enough good things about her! She did an amazing job! She listened attentively to my "hair history" and what I was looking for, explained what she was doing and why, made fabulous suggestions and gave great tips! She is a true professional hair stylist that is completely dedicated to making her client's look their best and be happy! I have never established a relationship with a hair stylist before, but I will most definitely go back to Dawn from now on. She can count me as one of her client's! I highly recommend her! You would be very fortunate to have her work on your hair! And the bonus is, she charges a fair and reasonable amount for a haircut!!
I've got some crazy curly hair, and am always apprehensive about seeing a new stylist, but was pleasantly surprised when I saw Dawn. I've been to Dawn 2-3 times, and always leave happy. Dawn explains everything she's doing and why she's doing it. Even better, she works for the client, listening to their wants and concerns, and meets them. Dawn knows what she's doing, does it well, and is a sweet girl. Price is right too!
I had never been to a salon before. My mom was a hair dresser and it was just easier for her to cut my hair. I started college a couple years ago and just waited until I went home to get a hair cut. Recently I have not be able to go home to get a haircut. My hair was down to my mid back and looked frizzy and dead. It was horrible. After the first phone call with the salon I instantly loved the place. Dawn was not at the salon when I called but the woman on the phone asked for my phone number to give to Dawn and she called me back in 2 minutes(probably less). I went in just thinking that I would just let her do whatever she thought would look good on me. I loved how she explained everything she did and how a regular cut need to be different from a curly girl cut. I have never loved my hair so much. I would wear it up everyday and now it is down constantly. I will be going back to Dawn in a couple weeks to get highlights and then maybe even take a couple more inches off. My hair has never felt so healthy and looked so beautiful. I even plan on taking the trip down from Maine to have her do my hair after I graduate this July.
After 3 years of living in NYC and getting my hair cut at the Curl Girl mecca - DevaChan - I moved to Rhode Island. I waited 8 months to get my hair cut in Rhode Island because I was so scared. Then I read some reviews on "Yelp" and "Citysearch," and they all raved about Dawn. I gave her a call to schedule an appointment, and guess what! She was trained in the Curly Girl/DevaChan method! I felt completely safe putting my 3A curls in her capable hands. She did not disappoint. She was confident with my curls, and clearly knew exactly what she was doing. I walked out with a cut I easily could have gotten at DevaChan, and for less than half the price! On top of that, she's super nice, and told me that if I didn't like the cut in a few days, I could come back and she'd do it over. Ani's Hair Salon isn't an upscale place (lots of old ladies getting their hair set), but Dawn is one hell of an upscale stylist.
