Stylist: Terrell Norris
After years of searching for someone who really knew how to cut curly hair I found Terrell Norris at Oasis Salon. He's the best and I was disappointed when my appointment was cancelled and Wafaya cut my hair instead. She gave me a good cut, but I continued to google to find Terrell. Finally, I found him at Dyolis Hair Salon in Lanham. Although it takes me 20 minutes longer to travel there rather than Oasis, it's definitely worth it. My haircuts with Terrell always grow in so well and I'm always getting compliments. Terrell, I'm so glad I was able to find you!!

I got my hair cut and partially highlighted by Kelly. She was amazing, skilled, and so down to earth. I had about 8 inches cut from my hair and I'm so happy it was with Kelly; cutting that much hair can be stressful! She made sure I wanted to cut my hair that short, which I thought was cool she made sure it wasn't an impulse decision and possibly something I would regret later. I went in to work and EVERYONE loved my hair. I didn't expect so many compliments. The compliments ranged from "I love the way it frames your face" to "that color looks so nice". Kelly really knew how to cut my hair so that it would fit me. I'm going to keep my hair short now and I truly believe a huge part of that decision is because of how well she cut my hair. Also, I had her pick out the highlights, I just gave her an idea and those came out great. I would highly recommend her to curly girlies! She's a great person and stylist. Also, because it was my first cut with her, she showed me how to properly care for curls (shampoo, condition, style, dry).

My salon experience was by far one of the best experiences (relaxed hair and natural hair)! Everyone was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and generous with information (to make styling at home easier)! Terrell did my clarifying cleansing as well as deep conditioning and he was very gentle, knowledgeable, and had great curls! No one has ever detangled my hair so thorough before today! Usually people give up and just start pulling combs and brushes through my thick/course hair. When he finished my hair, I set under the steamer to help the deep conditioner penetrate. Kelly did my curl defining/set, cut, and style. While she was setting my hair with the curling products she was not only informing me on ho to moisturize and style my hair, but she was also learning my hair texture as well. She didn't like how one product left the feel of my hair so she literally rinsed it out and tried another product! (This is something else I have never experienced in a salon.) Next, she didn't like how the second attempt product felt in my hair so SHE TRIED ANOTHER product!! She declared victory with the third set of products. Finally, with her magic fingers she set my curls which I could see developing with just conditioner alone (something my hair NEVER did)! Kelly did a wonderful job with the devacut (I got it rounded versus the upside triangle). It was exactly what I requested and she didn't turn me away from the mirror! Overall, I had a wonderful experience and I have already booked my next appointment (6 weeks) for a clarifying cleanser and treatment to strengthen my hair. I will continue this for the next 6-7 months until my hair is fully hydrated (it is really dry and easily tangled).Thank you Oasis!

For years I straightened my naturally curly hair, as I was under the assumption that straight hair was much easier to manage. The heat and all the products eventually took a toll on my hair. About two years ago I decided to embrace my God given curls, however I was challenged with trying to find a hairstylist that knows how to genuinely work with curly ethnic hair. My search was over when I found Oasis Salon. In particular, Kelli not only styled my hair but she also gave me a long lesson on how I need to take care of my hair. She was incredibly patient and she definitely knew what she was doing. Her bubbly personality coupled with her extensive knowledge and skill in ethnic curly hair makes her an outstanding hairstylist. It's a wonderful feeling to finally have found a highly trained hairstylist. My search is OVER and I'm FINALLY HOME at Oasis!!

I just posted a review for Terrell, but I also need to give a review for Marlon! I needed my hair cut fast and unfortunately my go to, Terrell was booked. However, fortunately Marlon had an opening and even though I was nervous to try someone new (when I find a stylist I trust with my hair I don't like to switch it up). Marlon was great! He listened to exactly what I wanted and delivered! I am so happy to know that if I ever need my hair done again in a pinch I have Marlon to make it happen!

I was looking all over last year for a hair salon that knew what to do with natural curly hair! I was getting married and desperately wanted my natural curls. I was tired of salons straightening my hair, curling it (fake curls that didn't look nearly as pretty as the real deal) and then styling for formal styles. I found Oasis and set up an appointment and got Terrell. Terrell opened my eyes and really showed me how to care, style and love my curls! I finally found a home for my curls! He also knocked my wedding hair out of the park, all my guests kept saying how much they loved that I had my natural curls. Terrell is the full package - from listening to what you want, making suggestions, cutting and styling! I've never been happier!

Wafaya has been doing my curly hair for several years and I highly recommend her. After spending my life either searching for someone who could make my curly hair look good, or avoiding salons because of curly nightmares (people not knowing how to work with curls resulting in horrible experiences), I found Oasis and Wafaya. I totally trust my curls in her hands and even cried the first time I saw how beautiful she made my curls look and totally natural. She embraces and celebrates curls and teaches you to love your curls. On me she does the Deva dry cut, color including beautiful painted highlights and styling with Deva techniques (never a blow dryer). She teaches how to use the products - this is key to making your curls look good on your own. Wafaya is up on the latest techniques for curly hair and recommends what is best for you and takes time to discuss and make sure you are totally comfortable. Oasis Salon has a relaxed atmosphere and welcoming friendly vibe. Try them - for me it was a life changing experience!

I am a 44 year old African American woman and yesterday was, hands down, my best salon experience EVER. I have never left a salon so educated and so very happy about my cut (first Deva/curly cut) and Colorado before. Wafaya is absolutely amazing. I have lots of heat damage in the front and she took so much time with me to explain how to care for the injured portion of my hair as well as the healthier part in back. I also broke down and floored my hair. I could not be happier with the results. Not only did I leave Oasis with rejuvenated curls but I also feel confident to care for my hair at home going forward. Good-bye flat irons, blow dryers, and "creamy crack." With Wafaya and company, I am excited to continue my naturally curly journey.

I just started transitioning about nine months ago. Terrell was very knowledgable and made the whole appointment educational. I wasn't planning to cut my hair but he listened to what I was trying to do with my hair and came up with a great style that made more comfortable with cutting some of my relaxed ends. My second visit a few months later I cut even more. I am so excited about my hair journey! Terrell had great product recommendations that have helped me move on from the product junkie phase of my hair journey. The products are healthy for my hair and allow me to recreate the salon look without a lot of steps. Terrell is amazing and I recommend him to every curly sistah out there. You don't need sticky crunchy products. Terrell is worth every penny plus a good tip! You won't be disappointed. The salon is calm, clean, professional, and timely. Everyone leaving there regardless of ethnicity looks amazing!

I've had curly girl cuts before, but a few months ago I had an appointment with Wafaya that was incredible. She listened to my concerns, made suggestions, and I ended up with this incredible cut. Even my sister complimented me on my haircut, which is a first! At this point, if Wafaya said its time for a mohawk I would do it! I trust her implicitly, which after years of non-curly-girl haircuts is saying something.

Yesterday was my third time going to Oasis and I am as impressed as ever. I have somewhat temperamental hair that undertook a TON of damage 2 years ago and going to Oasis was the first real step towards my hair's health. Wafaya has cut my hair the last two times and I'm as ever impressed by her warmth, knowledge, and humor. She took my 4 day old, grungy hair and by the time she was done with just the dry cut, it looked about 1000 times better. After it was washed and set, Wafaya fixed my layers a little and it was magic to watch how my curls reacted to the way she was cutting. She is truly amazing! I'm trying to get all my other curly haired friends to come out to Oasis, because it's so worth it. I look forward to every appointment because from the moment I walk in the door, I'm swept up in the great music, awesome smell, and just great vibe of the place, and I know I'll leave with not only great hair, but with a sense of relaxation and well being just from being there. Wafaya and her staff are simply incredible and Oasis is an absolute god-send!

Celeste listens, remembers and is honest about what your hair can and can not do. She has good training and explains how to work with your hair. I went curly after many years and found it liberating! I have healthier hair and I save time in the morning. Celeste has been instrumental in giving me confidence that I can work with my hair. I highly recommend Oasis and Celeste is Tops!!!

My eight year old daughter just had her first curly cut experience with Wafaya. Both my daughter and I were so pleased, we came home and immediately showed my "curly haired" neighbors the finished product, and they have since made two appointments! Wafaya was passionate, extremely knowledgeable, and made it a priority that I understood what she was doing so I could repeat the process as home. She was AMAZING with my eight year old and I am very much looking forward to bringing her to see Wafaya for years to come!

After more than 3 visits to the salon, I think I have a pretty fair assessment... Overall, I like the vibe in there - everyone is a curly head or curly head supporter that works there. Very good customer service. They do carry the Deva brand, so if you are fan that is a good thing. Salon is spotlessly clean and has a great magazine selection. They don't overly push selling the products. Location - northern part of Rockville pike, which is traffic hell but I go on Saturdays to minimize the impact. My first appointment was my best - Raena was very patient and supportive, listened to my concerns, and walked me through the process. I will say when I went in I had very good color that I had done at another salon and was quite happy with at the time (I used to get compliments, if that is an indication). The cut was the problem, since the stylist I had been seeing was not curly aware and would hack and create layers using thinning shears. For those of you that haven't done it, the Deva method can be a bit daunting at first to get right. I will say that very few stylists are good at color and cut in my experience. If you have resistant greys, curly hair and are a brunette, better to go to a colorist who can work through it with you. So, overall pretty pleased - also, I like that the salon makes a point to get involved with charity work.

I have to say this is the first time I've been to a salon in 10 years. I have been natural for about 5 of those ten. When I first walked into Oasis I loved the vibe I got. Very welcoming. I was very nervous because for so long I havent trusted anyone to do my hair for a very long time. Raena greeted me with a smile and warmth. :) right away I felt comfortable with her. Not only did she know how to tame my hair, but the education she gave was wonderful! From start to finish I knew what was going on with my hair and how to treat my problems Ive been having with it and she made it easy for me. I didnt know i had a curl like this until Ms.Raena put her touch on my hair. It has shine and bounce to it and even movement. Thank you Raena for the wonderful experience and the great hair ;). I'll be seeing you in a few weeks. I definitely would reccomend her 100%. Thank you Oasis Salon.

Wafaya and her team are MIRACLE workers!!! Here's a little background about my hair. I had a relaxer in my hair for years....and when i say years...my hair was relaxed for at least 20 years. WHen I moved from NY 6 years ago I decided to grow it out and I went natural. Did the BIG CHOP and all. I was doing well and my hair was a little bit passed my shoulders. I decided that i wanted highlights and went to a "reputable" salon in the area. They lightened my base color and gave me gorgeous highlights. The problem was they left the developer in my hair too long and a few short HOURS later my hair was coming out, breaking off, and felt like straw. Not only was it breaking but the chemicals reacted with my hair the same way a relaxer would and my curls were once again straight. I was devastated to say the least. The mother of a student of mine referred me to Oasis and Wafaya and I now REFUSE to go elsewhere. Not only has Wafaya comforted me in my time of "need" but she has encouraged me and has taught me how to nourish and work with my hair at this "in between" stage. That's what I love about Oasis. Not only do they do hair (and do it VERY well, i might add) but they teach you had to take care of it, how to work with it and show you what products are the best for your hair type. Almost any salon can do hair. But this is the only salon that i've been to in this area that actually cares about my hair, cares about me and won't just do whatever to my hair for a quick buck. Bravo Oasis!! You will always have my business!!

I had an interesting experience here. I just recently moved to the Rockville area and was looking for a new permanent salon that could handle my curly hair. After doing some research online, I thought this place looked like a reasonable choice. I called to make my appointment a week beforehand, and also noted on the phone that I wanted a cut and color. I was having friends in for the weekend, so it was excited to be able to get an appointment. I arrived and my stylist, Raena, was already ready to leave. She gave me a half-a$$ hair cut, and told me she would rather not do color because she has to go soon, etc. She told me to come in during the week, but I have a job and cannot go until after 6. Then she tried to push highlights. I was okay with some high lights. To make matters worse, she Raena left while my hair was drying, so when I finally got to see the color - she wasn't even there. Maybe this was a good thing. It all goes uphill from here. I went back two days later, Yolanda made such an effort to make sure it was right this time. She mixed my color, and also instructed the young Asian girl (Wafaya I think) on how far down to dye it, etc. Yolanda was super nice about the whole thing, and so was Wafaya. My hair ended up turning out pretty good - its got a nice goldish brown color to it, and I am happy with it. I think I will go back in awhile, but I am going to request Yolanda next time. I would advise against Raena. Thank you Yolanda and Wafaya!

After 4 years of my husband trying to convince me to straighten my hair, both of us are ready to stop fighting it and embrace my curly hair! I had tried one of the Deva products on my own, but didn't really understand how to utilize it to its fullest until I meet Wafaya. Yes, as you read in another review, she encourages you to use the Deva products and it's not because she is getting a kick back; it's because they work. I have tired other hair products that are free of sulfates and all they did was dry out my hair. Wafaya took her time with me, asked me about my hair, explained what she was going to do and explained to me what I needed to do at home to keep my hair looking great. This was the first time I have had a stylist who didn't want to straighten my hair to cut it. I love my curls now and it's all due to our little piece of curly hair heaven here in Rockville!

I live about 45 minutes from Oasis and decided to try them based on the wonderful reviews here. They did not disappoint. They were very friendly on the phone when I made my appointment. When I arrived, they offered me tea and I went straight into the chair for a consultation. Wafaya's first words after introducing herself and welcoming me to the salon were "Your curls are beautiful. What would you like me to know about your hair?" This approach is crucial to a positive salon experience because my biggest fear is that someone will just start chopping without understanding my hair. Everything that I brought up was addressed during the appointment - from cutting my hair of many textures so that it all blended together to giving me ideas on how to keep my curls lively between washes. As Wafaya related her story of learning to love and appreciate her own curly mane, it was clear I was in the hands of someone who not only had the expertise, but who also had the understanding of what we as curlies deal with. My hair is looking great and feeling more hydrated than ever before. I will definitely be back for my next cut.

Wafaya and the other stylists at Oasis (called The O Team) do a great job with my hair. They think outside of the box and are great problem solvers. I have some physical/health challenges and The O Team is caring and accommodating. The Team members always take the time to find out what a client really wants prior to a service (the salon also offers, massage, tanning, manicures and pedicures).I always feel welcome, and in safe hands when I'm there. The decor of the salon is beautiful, with vibrant color and jewel tones; the music played there is from all over the world. It's a good experience. Please check it out (Wintergreen Plaza rte 355/ Rock. Pike) if you are in the neighborhood. If you are not in the area its worth the trip. - Mitzi

Actually it is mostly through thin as my fine, ultra curly hair has been thinning and her recommendations for styles, products and color have made a huge difference. I can manage my hair easily, have tried all sorts of color I would never have, and feel terrific about how I look. Wafaya was the first stylist who cut my hair dry to round out the curl and make the whole look even.
