Stylist: AnnaMaria MacDonald

My daughter and I go to Columbus at least twice a year (2 1/2 hour drive) just to have Maria cut our hair. She is the best stylist I have ever gone to, and our hair looks better with every cut. She is as nice as she is talented, and I would recommend her to everyone! :D

Got my CG hair cut by AnnaMarie and loved it! Haven't been to a salon for a hair cut in years because nobody cut it right, finally can go again and not be scared.

The minute I moved back to Columbus, I was on the look-out for a curly girl salon. I was excited when someone recommended Maria to me. Her cut was definitely the most affordable curly girl cut I've gotten in the two years I've been seeking out Curly Girl trained stylists, but as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for." I showed up about five minutes early for my appointment, walked in, stood at the empty front desk for a while, finally gave up and took a seat, and proceeded to sit in the waiting area for a good 15-20 minutes without anyone even so much as acknowledging my presence. I mean, really?? I understand if you're a small operation and you all have clients, but at least pop out and say hello, check who I am, and let me know you'll be with me in a little while. Two different stylists actually walked right past me while escorting their clients out or talking to a contractor who I think was working on the space, and didn't even flash me a smile let alone ask who I was or who I was there to see. If I hadn't needed a cut so badly, I would've just walked out. Yes, Maria's been trained in the official curly girl cutting technique, and, no, I didn't leave with my hair in a crazy poofy mess. But, the cut was nothing special and with customer service that poor, I have no desire to return. I've already shopped around and found a salon and stylist where I paid just a little bit more than I did at Shag, and had a far better experience.

Stylist: Maria

My daughter and I just got back from our 2 1/2 hour trip to visit Maria. It is definitely worth the drive, Maria does a fantastic job. My hair looks amazing, she does a basic cut, then wets it, lets it dry slightly, and refines the cut. I was having one problem with the way my hair was laying, and she worked with me until we figured out what to do to fix it. It looks wonderful and feels great. I would highly recommend Maria. I told her that the old saying "I'm a beautician, not a magician" might need revamped for curly stylists because whatever they do to my hair, it works like magic!

Maria is an amazing stylist. She really knows how to make my naturally curly hair look its best. My hair looks healthy and stylish. As a 50 year old, that is important! I hope Maria never moves-she is my best stylist ever!

I have been to many of the top curly salons in Boston and New York and Jared has given me by far the best cut of my life. For my type 3a curls he expertly took out some of the weight and made product suggestions without being pushy. My search for a top-notch stylist in Boston is over!

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Shag Salon and Maria. She asked a lot of questions and examined my hair before doing anything. I have been wearing my curls for about 2 years now, but they have NEVER looked this good! I had my first "curly girl" cut last week, and it looks better every day. I LOVE it! Thanks, Maria!

I am from westerville and have gone to Akada before and had liked my hair but not my stylist. (She has a large client base so personal attention like remembering my name is hard) Its also kind of far for me to drive. So when my mom who also has curly hair found out about Stacia and the new Shag Salon, I decided that the next time I needed my hair cut I would go there. I went in to show Stacia my hair since I was getting a cut and needed corrective color. Even though she was busy, she took the time to look at my hair. I ended up getting the curly girl hair cut and corrective color. Shag is the only salon ive found in the area that specializes in Lorraine Masseys curly girl technique. They dry cut your curls peice by peice to increase curl and eliminate frizz. Stacia explained everything she was doing along the way and she also gave me a great color job. She was concerned about what was quickest, easiest, and cheapest for me. Which I appreciate since I'm a college student. I also bought a deva curl product, but felt no pressure to do so. Shag is the ONLY salon in the columbus area that sells deva curl products. I highly recomend Stacia and Shag Salon! Hope this was helpful! Thanks!

Several of the stylists at Shag recently went to New York to get the Curly Girl training, and it shows. Maria was wonderful – she took time before the cut to talk with me and see what my ideas were, then suggested several things we could do, working with what I wanted. I actually ended up getting my hair cut a bit shorter than I was anticipating, but after she cut a portion to show what it would look like, shorter made more sense. She explained everything she was doing and gave some great tips on styling. This is seriously one of the best cuts I have ever gotten from a salon, plus everyone was friendly and professional.
