I would give Prisma 1.5/5, but left it at 2/5 since there are no half's on this site. I had very high hopes going to this salon given the reviews on this site, and I was very disappointed. The only two things I asked of Mimmo in creating my hair style was that A) it would be easy and quick to maintain; B) it would look professional. Mimmo fulfilled neither. The style Mimmo suggested as "best" for me required 5 separate products ranging from $16-50 per 8 oz bottle and nearly an hour to complete EVERY TIME I WASHED MY HAIR! This 1 hour process required special equipment, dividing your hair into a million different sections, and special clips (which he just so happens to sell...shocking). Not exactly quick nor easy to maintain. It gets worse. Mimmo took my gorgeous 3a curls and turned them into 2b-2c waves. How? By weighing them down with so many different hair products! When I expressed my dissatisfaction with what he had done, his response was "oh well for someone with your hair, this is the only way to get curls" and then recommended a whole OTHER set of products for people who don't like it to look like an entire case of gel was dumped on their head. Not only was he wrong about my curls, he also made my hair look very unprofessional. I doubt looking like I just jumped out of the shower at say, a 2 pm meeting would instill confidence in my employer or clients. I would have given Mimmo a rating of 1/5, but bumped him 0.5 of a point because the actual hair cut was decent. When I washed all the crud out of my hair, my ringlets returned and did seem to be tighter and bouncier than before. However, at $150, the hair cut was VERY overpriced. I have gotten a marginally better hair cut at the smart style in my local Walmart, and it cost me $30 with a VERY generous tip to the stylist. Sadly, the stylist is currently on maternity leave, so my quest for a competent curly hairstylist will have to continue.
I had the most amazing experience! Felt like I was on one of those make over shows with all the attention I received. I have dealt with what I consider to be dry, frizzy, unruly curly hair my entire life and was in desperate need of help. I heard my cousins all talking about Ouidad on FB and began researching what it was all about. The closest certified salon to where I live in Buffalo, NY was in Toronto. I began e-mailing Mimmo and he was wonderful even before I decided to make the trek to Canada by responding to every and I mean daily e-mails with my questions. After corresponding with him for two weeks, the decision to allow an expert in curly hair to work on mine was a no-brainer. I will admit excited as I was, I was still very anxious as I have not changed my hair style in more years than I can remember. Everyone at Prisma was kinder than the next and reassured me along the way all would be fine. It was!! Stepahnia held my hand as she showed me how to style it, what products to use and how to get the look I wanted. Mimmo, is a master! The knowledge I received in one afternoon about taking care of curly hair was amazing. Mimmo truly loves hair and his expertise shows. I will be back in March for my next visit and can't wait! If you have curly hair, you must go to Prisma!!
I've been going to Mimmo at Prisma Hair Design for many, many years. Mimmo is AMAZING!!!. No one else compares. I always get tons of compliments on my hair. He is an incredible artist and is great at what he does. He is truly one of a kind. I feel right at home when I go to Prisma. Everyone I've recommended to Mimmo have loved their haircuts, colour, style and agree that he truly is an artist. Toronto is LUCKY to have a hair dresser of his caliber right here. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!! Can't wait to go back.
My hair has been transformed into something i dream imaged could be. I love the soft defined curls i get from using Ouidad. The all the stylist are fantastic, they are pleasant and cater to your needs. My hair looks great. Thanks Mimo and Stephania! J Antecol
Last Jan I decided to get the softening treatment for my fizzy curly hair. Not an easy decision since it is very expensive. However, 4 months later my hair is still relaxed and very easy to manage. Mimmo and Stefania are a great team giving me the best haircut I have ever had. I will go back SM
UGH I will never go back! I originally went there because they sell the Ouidad products and they sounded like the holy grail of curly hair. I was looking at the products and Mimmo (owner) told me I had a very nice curl....unfortunately after years of colouring my hair (from a natural brunette to blonde) and straightening my curls are not what they used to be so I didn't think they were that great. I thought they could help my curls. I made an appointment. The service was cold...when he spoke to me it was like he was telling me all the things I did wrong with my hair... I saw a lot of cutting but tried to stay optimistic. When it was time to put the products in my hair his daughter did it. She did tell me how to do it etc. When I was done...my hair was a crunchy, wet looking, no bounce, stiff sorta curly hair style. It was awful!!! The hair cut ends up being rounded at the bottom so you can't wear it straight. MImmo said - "you're not supposed to wear it straight" ... I went home and washed it out and did it my self and it turned out better. It was $200+ haircut that wasn't worth one penny.
I first met Mimmo 3 years ago when I came to Prisma to find out if I really did have curly hair (my long-time stylist told me it was only wavy). One Ouidad cut later, Mimmo showed me that I really did have curly hair! All the way through the process Mimmo explained what he was doing and how to use Ouidad's products. I love going there--it's worth the 2 hour trip from Buffalo!
I drove 3 hours as I'd heard about the Ouidad products and was willing to go for it! So glad I did. They were fun, welcoming, and trained me on how to use the products and how to deal with my frizzy hair. I've been back one and will continue to go. Lots of fun......have had tons of nice comments about wearing my hair curly for the first time in years and years..............AAWESOME PLACE!!!
