Yesterday, I drove 327 miles for a haircut and for what?! Only for the BEST salon / hair experience EVER! But let me give you the back story of how I ended up at Southern Curl. Five years ago I was looking for a salon where I live (in NC) to get a hair trim. The lady ****ured me that she knew how to trim curly hair (operative word here: trim). Long story short (which is the same way my hair went), I was butchered. It was a terrible situation, to say the least. Many tears of sadness and disappointment. Fast for****d to today where my hair had grown out and needed to be shaped into a style where it wouldn’t look so flat. I started looking for CURLY HAIR ONLY salons. That’s when I found Southern Curl in Atlanta on the map. An over 5-hour drive was tough to swallow at first, but I read A LOT about the salon (on their website, Instagram, Facebook, Yelp, Google, NaturallyCurly, and DevaCurl), contacted the salon and the owner, both responded quickly and an appointment was made. The salon requested photos of my hair from various angles and photos of the look I wished to achieve and a very detailed email was sent explaining how to prepare for my first curly hair appointment. Before I even got into the salon, they made me smile and I felt special. My name was on a board outside that said “You’re Special Today. Welcome.” After I checked in, my "before" picture was taken and I was offered complimentary snacks and a drink (**** was even an option.) It was a very relaxing environment. Christina Poitier was my stylist and SHE. IS. AWESOME. She knows whereof she speaks. First, she LISTENED to my hair journey and we talked about the look I wanted to achieve. We verified the look with the pictures I’d sent in and she chose the one my hair was most suitable for which just happened to by my favorite picture. Then she gave me a DevaCut which added the much sought after volume to my hair. I appreciate that she was willing to err on the side of not cutting enough as opposed to being overly happy with the scissors. What a welcomed change. As she cleansed my hair, Christina took the time to explain everything she was doing. She gave me a mirror to watch as she cleansed, conditioned, moisturized, and sealed my hair. She showed me how much to use of each product and even tested certain products on a section of my hair to determine whether or not to use it or choose another product that would be better suited to my hair texture. Of course, I would not be able to remember all that she said and did, products and amounts used, etc. so she made it easy and provided me with a 5-page “Southern Curl-Scription” bound in a folder to keep. After I sat under the dryer, she added a leave-in conditioner to soften my curls. Then I shook them out. My hair was shaped exactly the way I wanted it to be. It had volume and looks great! Was the Curl Specific Cut expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? Worth every penny. I can’t put a price on peace of mind when it comes to my hair. The struggle has been real. I went in expecting the best and fearing the worst, but that is all behind me. It was the greatest salon experience. It may seem extreme to drive over 5 hours for a salon appointment, but I am not willing to take any more chances with my hair and Southern Curl is my go-to from now on. Christina and Robin are THE BEST.

Robin is excellent. I've gotten the full service cut twice from her now. The first time was my first ever DevaCut, and she chopped off over 10 inches of hair and gave me a very cute, professional, angled short cut that I never thought I would be able to rock. She works with the hair you have to bring out its potential, she listens carefully to what you're looking for in your cut, and she explains the products/****ods she's using thoroughly. As for Southern Curl in general--I've never been in such a ****m and welcoming salon! As long as I'm in Atlanta, I will happily keep going back.

Put simply, Robin is the best. Three days ago, I had my first appointment at Southern Curl for my first Deva Cut/first real haircut I've had period with the exception of some slight side bangs and long layers I had cut about 6 years ago on pressed hair. I was a little nervous at first, because even though I'd been looking at articles and videos on Deva Cuts several months in advance as well as reviews and pictures of clients' haircuts done at Southern Curl, I wasn't sure if I was making the right decision by going to get a Deva Cut. From the very beginning, Robin was very clear about what she intended to do with my hair and how she planned to go about doing it. I came in not having a definite picture in mind of how I wanted my hair to look, and she took everything I told her that I did, didn't want, wanted to get rid of and gave me exactly what I didn't even fully realize I both needed and wanted. I told her that I didn't want to chop all my damage off and how short I was willing to go, and she listened. No combs or brushes were involved in the cut, ans there was no raking either during the cutting process. So by the time I was sitting in the washroom (best washroom I've been in, by the way), my nervousness and doubts had practically melted away. Robin did a fantastic job of assessing my hair, its current state and how to give it what it needed. She helped debunk/teach me things about my hair that had never even occurred to me or I simply had yet to figure out on my own. It was a very enlightening experience, and I'm so glad to say that three days later, I still have tons of definition (almost as much as I did when I left the salon), movement, and best of all, HARDLY ANY FRIZZ!!!! That's a pretty big feat, considering the fact that I was outside for a bit the other day right after it had rained. Typically, with Alabama humidity, especially after it's rained, if I don't cover my hair well it'll turn into fluff when not straightened even after a few minutes outside. But not this time! I don't remember ever having this little frizz. Even better than that, I'm so much happier with my hair than I was before I walked into the salon. I've been transitioning from over 6 years of heat damage for the past two months. And although I had cut off a decent amount of damage before my appointment, I wasn't seeing the kind of progress I had expected. It was driving me nuts. I didn't have the guts to have Robin cut all my damage off, but what was cut off infused so much more life into my hair. I still have damage, but what remains is nothing compared to the nearly straight, stringy ends that looked hideous compared to the rest of my hair that's mainly a mixture of probably 3c/4a curls. I never even knew my hair had the potential to have this much curl definition. And yet it does! I'm still in awe and amazement. It was more than worth the 3 hr/40 minute drive it took to get there. If you're contemplating scheduling an appointment with Robin or anyone at Southern Curl, do it. You'll gain hair knowledge, tons of definition :), and a newfound appreciation for your hair. I know I have. I'm so excited to wash my hair again once this wash and go gets old enough and use all the new techniques I've learned. Thank you so, so much Robin! You've changed my relationship with my hair for the better, and I'm excited for my next appointment. :)

Drove from Birmingham, Alabama and it was totally worth it! Beth was my stylist and did an absolutely amazing job on my hair! I had about three to four inches of straight damaged ends and once Beth started working her scissor magic, my curly hair came to LIFE! I love my new length and shape! I will most defiantly be going back to see Beth at Southern Curl. Best hair experience EVER!

Before this review, I have to explain the three reasons I chose Southern Curl to begin with. First off, as I have been going natural I’ve always experienced issues with holding moisture. I very quickly became a product junkie through a lot of trial and error. I cannot braid or flat twist (my hands are cursed) so even the basic styles were always difficult for me to achieve my desired look. 2. For the past 6 months I've been experiencing serious allergies. Although I had been using organic/natural brand products (Jane Carter, Curls, Kinky Curly, Shea Moisture, etc.), my health was beginning to take serious affect. After researching that these products contained things that caused me to become dizzy, swelling in my throat, teary eyes, or sneeze non-stop, I needed to find something that wasn’t harmful for my health. 3. For me finding a curl expert was not just something that was going to a simple hair style for my own confidence. This was a huge factor in my career. As a working actor who has gone back to natural since January 2013, it has definitely been a difficult journey. Since I couldn’t afford to the big chop without completely changing the brand I had to adjust to productions requirements. From September through November I had gotten my hair silk pressed. Not giving my hair a break caused heat damage even after a lot of heat protectant. I did a lot of research before coming to this salon, and saw Robin was one of the top curl experts in the world. I flew from Florida to Atlanta just to get my hair done because Robin was my last hope to saving my career after all the heat damage and allergies. On the business side of things, this was a much more affordable option considering I would have to redo my entire brand: i.e. headshots ($700 photos), uploading to various casting websites ($50), travel/rental car to photographer ($300), makeup artist fee ($250), meals ($40), etc. So yes, cheaper to just keep my look rather than change it. I sent Robin a LONG email explain in detail my hair journey as well as the products that may or may not have caused some reactions. When I arrived I was welcomed by the receptionist with beautiful natural hair and I knew I was in the right place. Robin was extremely understanding, patient, and heard me out as I explained why this service was very important to me. She was listened to all my concerns, and advised on the next steps we would take to achieved my desire look without harming my health or career. I absolutely loved that she was diligent, careful, and most importantly taught me what to do as well as what to avoid. I also learned that I prescribed myself wrong, thinking I was high porosity since my hair was always dry. However she corrected me stating I was medium to low porosity with high density and 3c hair. I trusted Robin to help with cutting the right amount of damaged ends off so I looked enough like an audition I did the week prior as well as my headshot I took 1 year prior. She shaped my hair beautifully and healthy. I like that she cut enough without it looking extremely short as well, and THAT IS A TALENT! Robin was everything I could’ve asked for and more. I am so grateful that she gave me the time I needed without feeling rushed, which made the flight worth it. I am definitely feeling more confident with my career at the start of this year, and I have Robin and her team to thank for that. I will continue to fly just for her to see where this curly journey takes us. For that I couldn’t be more grateful and blessed!

I wish I was able to give more than 5 stars for this experience! Robin and Southern Curl have changed my life (and I'm not being dramatic)! I have 3a curly hair but have been straightening it and coloring it for years and the damage was horrible. I also have NEVER cut my hair shorter than my shoulders, so even thinking about a Deva Cut and getting rid of all my heat and color damaged scared me. But I knew I wasn't happy, wanted more lively curls and more volume. The second I came in, I was greeted by name and given a tour of the beautiful salon. Everyone is so welcoming and makes you feel like they really are happy you are there. Robin sat next to me on the couch and we just talked about my hair., where I wanted it to be, what I didn't like, what I did like and what I was hoping to gain after the cut. I felt SO AT EASE after talking with her. She makes you feel so comfortable and that she truly cares about your outcome. I got over 3 inches of my hair cut off, and my confidence in her skill is what made it so easy. Never did she push for me to cut...she was so calm and easy and wanted to make me happy no matter what. I can't stop looking at myself and am getting compliments daily! I cannot believe these are my curls! (I've read others say this, but it really is true - Robin changes the way you feel about hair you've always had!). 10 stars! I can't wait to go back for my next trim and appointment!

I went to Beth for a Full Curly appointment - a dry cut then a wash/condition/style. I've never had a dry cut before but was excited to try it out. I could tell that I was going to like the shape of the cut right away. During the wash/hydrate/style portion, Beth carefully explained all of her techniques and the type of product as well as why it would work in my hair. She gave me a print out of the products and instructions for hair care as well as a towel and clips to pin up my hair while it dries. I was so happy with the cut and style and how well the products worked in my hair that I ordered all of them online later that day. I'm a very happy first time client and have no doubts that I've found my new stylist and salon.

Yesterday, I went to Beth at Southern Curl for the first time, but it won't be the last! I was very apprehensive getting another Deva Cut, (I had a very underwhelming experience at a DIFFERENT salon), but Beth put me at ease immediately. Not only did she listen to all my hair issues, but she addressed all of them throughout the cutting/styling process. Beth and team were so helpful in educating me on what products to use and how to use them. I left with instructions provided by them, products that I chose to buy, (they were not pushy at all), and confidence in my curls for the first time! Not only will I return to see Beth for my Deva Cuts in the future, I will also be recommending her to all my curlfriends!

All I can say is WOW! What an amazing experience...in my 62 years of living with curly hair, I have never had such a wonderful experience with such a knowledgable stylist! NEVER! Beth and I chatted the day before my appointment and she asked that I send her some pics. During the appointment, Beth was thorough, explaining everything that she was doing - not just explaining the steps - she also explained the purpose and why it was right for curly hair. Simply amazing! She explained which product she was going to use on my hair and why and better still...I left with a full written plan! I was completely at ease and never worried about the final results. Southern Curls and Beth - I have found my new home! You'll never get rid of me!

This is my first time EVER doing a review on anything so forgive me if I'm all over the place. Simply put, Robin is AMAZING!! I love my hair!! I have never allowed anyone to cut my hair other than my hair stylist (who only cut it straight). I went in for a consultation with Robin first, which I definitely recommend just so you are both on the same page. We discussed what I wanted but for the most part I allowed her to take control. I trusted her with my hair and she delivered. She was friendly, upbeat and really made me feel comfortable. She pretty much cut off the dusty ends that I have been holding on to for years. YES, my hair is a tad bit shorter but my hair looks and feels AMAZING!! My hair feels light, it's bouncy and full of life! Honestly..it is sooo much better than I expected. I am African-American with mostly 4a hair (just a tad of 3c), so I was a little nervous. If you are looking for a stylist to trust with your curls PLEASE make an appointment with Robin! I searched for a stylist for over a year and I am upset that I hesitated to contact Robin!! She's the BEST! You won't regret going to her..take it from me. PS..Beth greeted me while Robin was preparing for me and I really appreciated her being so kind! Great atmosphere and experience all around!!

Beth was amazing! My experience was so in-depth; it wasn't just a trim...it was learning about me and my style and how Beth could teach me surrounding that. She went into great detail on the procedures, how to use what type of products....all of the details were so helpful. She was very realistic in explaining so I didn't feel like it was a waste of time or so far fetched I couldn't repeat it. I even got a hand out with directions with what we used and went over. Learning the techniques was very new to me;I have been to see so called "curl" specialists before but clearly not legitimate ones like Beth! Southern Curl is amazing and I will definitely be back and recommend to others!

Having recently moved from Los Angeles..I had the daunting task of finding a competent hair stylist..one who was not only skilled with a Deva cut but was savvy with hair color..After a search I found Southern Curl at the Fuzion Salon just a few miles from my house..Beth made me feel welcomed and comfortable (check) What I was truly impressed with was her expertise and skill with not only the Deva cut..but choosing the right color for my hair..it's always a daunting thing to sit in a salon chair for the 1st time not knowing whether or not you will be a hit or a miss..the finished result for me and with my experience at Southern Curl is .. hands down one of the best .. the cut..perfect..the color .. awesome..I will definitely return to Southern Curl to see Beth..

I have read numerous curly hair books and articles, as well as been a member of Naturally Curly for more than ten years. My (3a) curls had been in a phase where they were not working well with any products, which does periodically happen. Rather than buy more and more products to try, I decided to go to a Deva Curl consult with Robin. She showed me things I was not doing, specific to my type of hair. After her magic touchm Mm definiton was back!Robin was wonderful, so I would recommend her to anyone tar her salon, North of Atlanta.

Robin gave me a "foundation cut"--she shaped and layered my curls. Then she conditioned and styled them, and my curls felt so light, bouncy, and soft for days after my appointment. This was my 2nd visit with her, and although she is in a different state than me, I will definitely be planning my next trim with her in a few months!

Robin was fantastic! I've been natural for 4 years, but had a "hair moment" which lead be to blonde and excessively straighten my hair over the course of 6 months. This left my hair quite damaged with lots of straight ends. I was ready to cut it all off, but Robin showed me that I didn't need a big chop. With the right cut and a moisture regime I am back on track. Her knowledge and patience were reassuring. I will definitely be back for a trim in 4 months!

Robin shaped my hair dry, cleansed and styled with Innersense products, dried with a Devafuser. I loved the conditioner--it was so soothing to my scalp. Robin had to detangle some pesky knots in the back of my head and she totally revitalized my entire hair. I was pleasantly surprised. She didn't take too much length off and her technique helped me keep volume while my curls clumped perfectly. When I'm back in Smyrna, I'll definitely be going back to her for a trim.

Robin is awesome! I went to her after another stylist botched both my cut and color and she made a miracle happen. First she gave me an adorable new style without losing any length. Then she corrected the color so I now have incredible highlights. My curls are bouncy and shiny again. As an added bonus, she is so intelligent, warm, and friendly. I can't recommend her highly enough.

This was the best hair cut ever!!! Sandy spent a lot of time cutting my hair (strand by strand) and educating me on the products and how to use them. I have fought with frizzy hair for years and always envied perfect curls. I have dreaded getting my hair cut because it has always been a disaster and it seemed like no one had a clue how to cut it or which product to use. Now I feel like a movie star. Sandy is a true artist and i am a true believer of the curl.

Sandy cut my Curly hair on Thursday and I am in Curl HEAVEN! She took her time and cut my 3B hair DRY, CURL BY CURL~ It is so light and bouncy! Not only did she give me a great cut, she educated me on how to take care of my curls at home. It was a curly hair boot-camp! We spent 20 minutes at least at the shampoo bowl going over products and how to apply them to my hair and how to read the ingredients (no silicones/sulphates/parabans allowed for this curly girl!) Then she showed me HOW to apply each product to the hair (Who knew there was a certain way to apply conditioner to achieve that clumpy frizz-free look?) All in all, it was a life changing day and I am so thankful for finding her and the girls at Capri Salon. Check them out, you won't be sorry!

I went to Capri Salon October 16, 2014 after watching "mahogany knots" on youtube's experience with Robin for the deva cut.I have curly hair that hits my shoulders and have been growing it out for about three years now. My hair was getting so plain and boring and the front part had grown out so long that I looked like a mushroom! I came to Robin and told her exactly what I wanted (with tons of pictures of girls I found on Instagram - pictures of cuts I did NOT want included) and she did an awesome job. She was so patient and listened to every single thing that I said.For my first time, I wanted a small change. I did not want a drastic cut! She took off barely any length and gave me the results I wanted. If you live in the Atlanta area, Robin at Capri Salon is a great stylist to go to! Hopefully I'll be uploading a video of my experience soon on youtube (and pictures on Instagram) so that curly girls who are nervous to get a cut for the first time can feel a little more comfortable (@TeAmoAaron)All the women in the salon made me feel right at home and were all so sweet to me.I definitely will be coming back to Robin within the upcoming months!

I heard about Robin on mahoganyknots' youtube channel and decided take the leap. I had a good amount of damage from color and was ready to start over before my 30th birthday! I love the deva cut that Robin gave me. I was surprised at how friendly and personable everyone was. I wasn't a fan of the products that were used as I didn't like the way they made my hair feel. BUT I love my cut. I wish there was a way to attach pictures. THANK you Robin.

My daughter and I drove from Charleston to Atlanta for hair cuts. The day before, I called the shop to see what hotels were located near by. Sandy was so pleasant on the phone and very helpful. The next day, my daughter and I went to the shop and had and AWESOME experience with Robin and Nicole. The atmosphere was very inviting and the customer service was par-excellent. Robin paid very close attention to my hair, my concerns, how I wanted it cut, etc. She did the same for my daughter. She did not rush because of the amount of clientele she had. She took her time with EVERY client she worked with. I was very pleased and so was my daughter. We would definitely both go again in the near future!!! After the cut, Robin still keeps in contact with me to inquire about how my hair is doing. That in itself is customer service above and beyond!!! Thank you Capri Salon for being above the rest!!!

As a first timer for professional hair coloring, choosing the right salon/stylist meant a lot to me. As soon as I walked into Capri Salon I was greeted by everyone. Long story short, all of the stylists get along very well and it's obvious that they love what they do. They know how to make you comfortable and offer drinks as soon as you walk in. Robin was so amazing! She educated me on what I'm doing right for my hair and what I could change to make my hair more manageable. She is very knowledgeable about curly hair and makes great recommendations. I will definitely be a returning customer!

My haircut with Robin was very much needed. she knew exactly what to do- it seemed- even before i started saying what i wanted my cut to give me. She was great, she listened to what was making me unhappy, and i walked out there so happy! I used to relax my hair 2-3 years back so the ends were just dead and not even curly, i was extremely excited to cut that off! now my curls look great with minimum product from the Deva curl line (and i have ALOT of hair) i am truly impressed and i will definately be back. i would recommend her to anyone with curly hair! which you dont see alot here in GA, im originally from NY where thats the complete opposite.

Also the education and information she gave me made it very easy to go home and style my hair exactly the way I was shown at the salon. I absolutely love it, and I have truly never loved my naturally curly hair before I started going to Robin for the Deva Cut. Robin is the expert!! And not only is she a phenomenal stylist, she will also send you home with full instructions and the right products to keep your hair looking fabulous every day. If you have naturally curly or wavy hair, Robin is the stylist to go to if you're in metro Atlanta! I'm a 3A and I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair and it is so easy to deal with now! instead of fighting the curl, Robin has cut my hair in the unique way it needs to be cut, and then taught me how to care for it and style it to look its best. I love it! And I never loved it before - I spent hours flat ironing it trying to get the frizzy curls out. Now that it's cut right and I'm using the right products, the curl is gorgeous and defined and my hair looks incredibly healthy and shiny. It has never looked this good! I've never had so many compliments and so many people asking me who my stylist is. And it's never been so easy to style, that's the truly amazing part. Robin is not only an exceptional stylist, she is also very patient and takes the time to go over the care routine with you so that you walk out of the salon knowing you can style your hair easily with the products and knowledge she sends you home with. Nicole and Sandy are wonderful with curly hair as well so it's a great experience every time at Capri Salon!

If you have naturally curly or wavy hair, Robin is the stylist to go to if you're in metro Atlanta! I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair and it is so easy to deal with now! instead of fighting the curl, Robin has cut my hair in the unique way it needs to be cut, and then taught me how to care for it and style it to look its best. My overall experience at Capri Salon was wonderful. Yes, the cut was amazing, but I was most impressed by the education I received on my curl pattern, hair care regimen, and styling options. I haven't had my hair cut professionally in over 5 years because of bad experiences. I'm glad I waited until I discovered Robin's work. She did the deva cut on me and my hair looks amazing. Very helpful with product information and general care instructions for natural hair. As an African American people never know about the different way to treat our hair and Robin was very knowledgeable. She also corrected my base hair color that another salon ruined as well as doing Pintura highlights. It was a great experience and I drove up from Tallahassee, FL to get my hair cut, colored and highlighted. I am usually a control freak when it comes to stylists doing my hair because I tend to know more about curly hair than my stylist but not this time!

I'm a 3a & I just found Robin about a year ago. Growing up I have always had a love/hate relationship with my curls. I found somebody who I thought was doing a good job on my hair, but then found out that you never use a razor on curly hair. So again, the search was on. A friend of mine introduced me to Curly Girls. I am so happy she did. I am so happy to have found Robin. After my first cut with her, my husband was blown away with my curls! After getting tips on how to take care of them & work with them I absolutely love them now. Being a native of Atlanta, I have probably had my haircut at every major salon over the years. I found Capri Salon after researching many curly hair specialist across Atlanta as I was looking for a salon closer to home. I have had a Deva Cut for the past few years at several other salons but none as good as I had by Nicole at Capri Salon a few weeks ago. Nicole really listened to what I was looking for in terms of cut and color and delivered the best haircut, color, and style I have ever had. Curly hair can look professional and can actually be easy to do if you have the right cut and products. Nicole also worked with me on selecting some different products to try as some of the previous curly hair products I had been using were weighing my hair down. The best part is Capri Salon had many of their products in sample sizes so I can try them out and pay less before committing to the big bottles! The search if finally over for me as I will not let anyone else touch my hair but Nicole!

After years of blowing my curls straight, I decided to just go with them. I have a variety of curl types, so it can be a bit challenging. I searched for someone for a long time and tried several other "curl cutters" before I found Robin. I never thought my curls were a good professional look, but Robin always makes them look amazing and teaches me how to control the frizz. Not only does she give me a great cut, my color is always amazing. If you're a curly girl, do not hesitate to go see Robin!

I'm a 2A and am very particular about my hair. I got highlights for the first time at Capri Salon and couldn't have been more pleased. I have never had such a good haircut before going go Robin. I can let it dry naturally and never have to style it anymore! Robin used the pintura method to highlight my hair and it looks so natural! I was so nervous about putting dye in my hair but I don't regret my decision at all! Thanks Robin! :)

I'm a 3c and have been getting a Deva Cut for two years. Robin at Carpi Salon is the best stylist I have ever had! I've been seeing her for about a year now. Prior to her I had tried three other stylists at another salon in the area that were Deva certified but none were as talented as Robin. My cut always looks great and she has helped me figure out the perfect combination of products for my hair! I frequently have people stop and ask about my hair and the product I use. Last Saturday, Robin gave me highlights using the Deva Pintura method and I have received compliments about her work for the last three days. I can't say enough about how great of a stylist she is!
