Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid

May 21, 2014 - I love this stuff, especially when combined with Shu Uemura's Cotton Uzu. Mixed together, they make a perfect finishing shine-and-hold combo. I also like to use it on its own to give some final shine to any dull or frizzy spots on the top of my curls or near my face.

Shu Uemura Cotton Uzu Defining Flexible Cream

May 21, 2014 - Absolutely love this stuff. Hard to find- only at certain salons and with a high price tag, but it lasts a long time! I use it almost every day and it usually lasts 3 -4 months for me. My favorite way to use it is to combine a small dab with Aveda's Light Elements Smoothing Fluid and use that combo as a finishing touch on nearly-dry curls. It gives the perfect amount of shine and hold! Used on its own, it gives a really nice hold without any sort of crunch whatsoever.

Moroccanoil Curl Defining Mousse

May 22, 2011 - This is my first Moroccanoil product, and I LOVE it! Pros: -Mousse goes a long way, so I can almost justify the price tag (I found it for $32 at a salon) -Incredible curl definition: I even get ringlets on the back of my head, which is usually too heavy to get great definition. -Smells great! -Pretty good frizz control, though I think I need to find something else to pair it with in order to get totally humidity-busting control. I might look into the Moroccanoil oil itself. Cons: -As mentioned above, I feel like I need to pair it with something else to get good frizz control. Haven't found out what this is yet. -Not great for second-day hair. That is, I can't really sleep on it and expect my hair to be good to go the next day. I think this is due to the heaviness of the product (which is amazing for definition, but leads to bad bed head.)

Madusalon - San Francisco, California, United States

Jun 15, 2009 - I am a 3a just beginning to accept the fact that my hair requires a lot of time, care, and money. I went to Ivy after reading reviews here, and I definitely think the $85 Deva cut was worth it. Like others say, Ivy is really sweet and makes you feel like her one and only client. She gave great advice about t-shirt drying, clipping, etc. Clipping hair at the crown of your head, along your part, makes ALL the difference. She insisted that I come back if I want anything touched up (although, I think at this point I just need to find the right products to really make her work shine). My only wish is that she gave me more direction on what products to use. I appreciate that she didn't "push" products, but I need to know where to spend my $$, so that I don't buy dozens of $15 bottles of product. Once I find the perfect products, I know that my hair will look as good as when I left Madusalon.
