DevaCurl Light Defining Gel (formerly AnGEL)

Aug 04, 2011 - I am very pleased with AnGel. I had been trying the Ouidad and Curlisto product lines and really hated having to apply their multiple products in "sections". It feels so unnatural, heavy, and sticky. Finally, I tried the DevaCurl 3-step trial pack and I am thrilled. AnGel is low-maintenance and leaves my hair completely natural and soft, while still providing beautiful definition. The scent of the whole line (no-poo, one condition, and angel) is also really nice. Kind of a chamomile/mint tea with a bit of citrus. My husband can't keep his nose out of my curls! The only reason I didn't give it a 5: it is a bit pricey. But I think buying in bulk online would make it worthwhile...I am definitely going to stick with it.

Fiddleheads - Washington, District of Columbia, United States

Jun 28, 2012 - I reviewed Fiddleheads a while back, if I remember correctly. I was recently there again, and I have to say - as far as this area goes, Fiddleheads - and Vicky - are the best place for my wild 3c curls. When I went a couple weeks ago, it was the first time in a long while. I told Vicky that I needed at least all the dead ends cut and then something more fun and summery. I actually wasn't too pleased with the first result. I called within 3 days of that cut to let them know and to see if they would do anything to make it up to me. Vicky offered for me to come back the next day at no extra charge. At a time where I feel customer service is at an all time low, it means a lot to find a salon/stylist who still puts her customer first. Vicky's a lovely woman who knows her way around a head of curls. After the second visit, my bouncy summery look is in effect! Turns out, Vicky was being conservative the first time - she didn't realize how short I was willing to go. I say, go to Fiddleheads and ask for Vicky. Just make sure you have a clear idea of what you want so that she will make it happen for you the first time!

Christo Fifth Avenue - New York, New York, United States

Feb 10, 2011 - Alice was great. I went to her after reading Christo reviews online...I was debating between Ouidad and Christo 5th Ave and on a hunch, chose to go with Christo. My hair seems to have lost some umph since I was hit with a 10-day tropical bug. I've been really anxious - my curls seemed limp, my hair thinner. Alice helped me understand that these effects may be irreversible, and while I'm not giving up, she revived what I do have! Beyond that, Alice is clearly very knowledgable, and truly cares about helping curlies stay happy and healthy. She's also really easy to talk to. The woman who washed my hair gave me a fantastic head massage -- twice. To top it all off, Alice wrote me a letter with her tips and her styling suggestions so that I can recreate her work on my own. I haven't exactly recreated the look at home, but I'm pretty happy with what I am able to do. (I'm used to low-maintenance styling...) As for the product line, I find that while the hold is good and strong, my hair feels rather stiff. I am going to keep trying the Curlisto, Ouidad and a combination of the two until I find what works best with my 3b/a head!

Bang Salon - Washington, District of Columbia, United States

Dec 11, 2008 - I went to Elana a long time ago - also upon recommendations from others - but would not recommend her. Maybe it depends on the clients curl type? I'm a 3b and she didn't seem at all confident, and I walked out feeling no different than when I walked in. I've since moved out of DC, but if others are looking for salons around there, I hear Heather at Trim Salon is high quality (and Ouidad certified). Now if anyone has recommendations for a place in Papua New Guinea, please send them on! :)
