Type 4B/4C photographer and natural YouTuber Tricia Montaque created a tutorial just for NaturallyCurly on how she achieved a beautifully polished afro. This look is a staple for those who are growing out their TWAs after doing the big chop, and in everyday life while maintaining their healthy natural hair.

The Night Before

  1. Moisturize. Tricia applied Alikay Naturals Lemongrass and Design Essentials Natural Curl Stretching Cream on her dry, detangled hair.
  2. Tricia distributed the product evenly from root to tip with the pads of her fingers.
  3. 10 to 12 chunky three-strand twists are suitable for a fluffier, fuller-looking ‘fro. Tricia twirls the ends of each twist to keep them together overnight.

The Next Day

  1. Tricia applied an oil-based moisturizer like Alikay Naturals Moisture-Rich Hair Parfait to your fingers while taking down each twist. This added lustre and minimized frizz (caused by the friction from sleeping on your twists”>.
  2. To get as much stretch as possible, Tricia gently separated and fluffed her hair using a wide-tooth comb.
  3. With the pads of her fingers, she pulled the ends of her coils for even more stretch.
  4. To finish off the look, Tricia wrapped a thin headband (the same color as her hair”> around her head, about one inch from her hairline. Add a bow for extra polish.
