Stylist:

A few months after moving to New Jersey, I was looking for a new stylist and found Belle Allure salon.  The NaturallyCurly entry offered no reviews, but I checked on Yelp and Google and found the reviews to be mostly positive.  I picked this particular salon as I wanted someone who knew what to do with curly hair, and I didn't want to pay too much for what I got.

However, I now regret not fronting the extra cost for a better hair cut.  Although the stylist led me to believe that she had plenty of experience cutting curly hair, the first thing she did to my 2C/3A hair was wash it, with not one but two different types of shampoo.  I was immediately concerned but decided to wait and see how things went.  She proceeded to cut my hair while it was wet, something that I have found does not work for my hair at all since it changes drastically once dry.  Furthermore, she continued to use products that were not at all CG friendly.  Once finished cutting, she used a strange, fibrous gel/mousse and used a blow dryer with no diffuser attachment.

By the time I left, I was so horrified by the cut, that I had to put it up in a bun.  Once I had returned home, I attempted to style my new cut, hoping that I would be able to make it work with my own products.  To my dismay, even after a week's time, I was still unable to achieve anything workable.  I ended up getting the cut fixed by my old stylist on a trip home for the holidays.  Even now, two full months later, I am still dealing with some issues that my stylist back home was unable to correct.  Needless to say, I will not be returning to this salon for any future haircuts.
