What inspired you to start a vlog?

Curly Penny: My wonderful friend inspired me. He told me, “You know a lot about curly hair! You should make a YouTube channel!” He has a professional camera and knows a lot about YouTube so I decided, eh why not! I had thought about it before but I didn’t have the proper equipment or experience, but luckily my friend did. If it wasn’t for him there would never be my CurlyPenny channel. He does so much work for the channel; all I do is talk in front of the camera, but he has been my rock through this journey and I love him very much.

What do you like most about vlogging?

Curly Penny:  I love the fact that I am helping someone through my videos. I receive messages from girls thanking me for saving their hair and inspiring them, and that honestly melts my heart! I love being able to help others.

What do you want to do beyond YouTube?

Curly Penny:  I honestly don’t know, I am only 18 years old and have a lot of time ahead of me. For now, I want to finish my nursing degree in college. After that, I’ll take whatever opportunity comes my way!

Do you have any advice for new curly hair vloggers?

Curly Penny:  Never pretend to be someone you’re not and never change who you are for the sake of money or views.  Remember that you are a big influence on the people who are watching you, so make sure you are setting a good example with your words and your teachings.

What is your number one piece of advice for women with curly hair?

Curly Penny: Don’t let someone decide whether you are beautiful or ugly. You were made by God and God don’t make ugly. Life is too short to hate yourself, so embrace your natural beauty and inspire others to do so as well. Also,  remember that there is more to life than pretty hair. In the end, a truly beautiful woman is measured by the size of her heart for others.
