The red carpet was hot last night, and so was the show. There were so many stars to “ooh” and “ahh” at over this year at the Academy Awards. Overall, ponytails and glam were definitely the themes this year, but don’t worry, we spotted curls, kinks and waves at the Oscars, and can help you steal their looks!
Curly Celebrities
Jessica Chastain
The supporting actress nominee for “The Help” shined on the red carpet. Her type 2Awaves were pumped up to show off her coppery waves. Use volumizing products while styling. Mousses are great for type 2 waves since they provide shine, hold and body without weighing your hair doen. Then, tease the top crown section slightly and pin it back leaving out a few strands around the face.
Milla Jovovich
The actress sparkled for her first Oscar appearance. Milla’s type 2B waves were accentuated with caramel balayaged highlights. By using a soft styling cream and lightly fingering the waves back, you can easily recreate this look. If you have longer hair, don’t worry about needing to get a cut to get the style. Simply pull the hair back and pin your longer layers up under the top ones. Play around with it a bit to get the exact look and length that you want. Then, be sure to to use bobby pins in an X formation to that the hold stays throughout the night.
Viola Davis
The lead actress nominee for “The Help” outdid herself again last night by going natural. She has proven to be a curly girl’s favorite. Twitter lit up as she stepped out on the red carpet, getting #teamnatural riled up and excited about her debut look that we’ve been wanting to see on the carpet since the movement began. Her type 3Ccurls were spectacular. To keep them tight and in place, use a moisturizing cream. From the look of it, she simply rocked a wash-and-go on that gorgeous TWA of hers. Side note: LOVE the matching earrings, dress and eyeshadow!
Melissa McCarthy
The supporting actress nominee for “Bridesmaids” looked flawless with her breathtaking updo. Melissa’s type 2Bwaves were scrunched while dry with a curly hairspray then pulled back away from her face. Next, her curls were pulled into 3-4 sections, and knotted to the side. If you are recreating the look, be careful not to disturb the curl pattern. Don’t run your hands through your hair, simply work with it to place it in the knot. Bobby pins are your best friend here, so use the X formation to make sure that the knot stays in place all night.
Penelope Cruz
The Spanish beauty brought back the old Hollywood glam last night. To get her look, create a deep part on type 2Awaves, then smooth hair over and under until not a hair is out of place with a hard hold cream. Then apply a finishing spray to set in place. This style works well for curlier hair types as well. The secret to the glam look is keeping everything polished. Sit frizzies down with a hard hold gel and pin up your layers with bobby pins.
Chris Rock
We can’t forget about the curly men. Chris Rock has grown out his type 4A kinks and has gone natural. To keep his natural look, he needs to keep his hair hydrated and moisturized. We’re guessing (okay, hoping”> that he does a weekly deep conditioning treatment to keep those curls looking fabulous. Then, it’s just a wash-and-go and done.
