Have I “worn” the wet hair look before? Of course. But not in the intentional sexy Beyoncé way. More in the I-don’t-have-an-hour-to-diffuse-my-hair-even-though-it’s-below-freezing way.

Every curly-haired woman is nodding her head (spirals bobbing”> in agreement. Wet hair has not exactly been a desirable style until recently. I first noticed it in Prada’s drenched ad campaign last year. Then models with soaked manes came sauntering down the spring runways. But it wasn’t until Queen B writhed on stage with just-short-of-dripping waves at the Grammys that I was convinced—this was one trend I needed to try.

I enlisted the experts at Miss Jessie’s to help me recreate the look on a curly head of hair. Here, step-by-step instructions for making your ringlets look intentionally saturated:

Step 1

Wash your hair with a detangling solution like Miss Jessie’s Original Super Slip Sudsy Shampoo then condition with Crème de la Crème—I swear you can actually feel it rehydrating your curls. Run a wide-toothed comb through when you get out of the shower.

Step 2

Apply a palm-sized amount of Quick Curls to one-inch sections of your hair from root to tip, raking it through in a downward motion. (I redefined some of my wayward spirals with my fingers.”> Then, using your fingertips, scrunch a quarter-sized amount of the Jelly Soft Curls into the ends to separate and define the spirals.

Step 3

Technically, you should sit under a hooded dryer to get the desired effect but since I don’t own one (who does?!”> and it’s too cold to let my hair air dry, I used a diffuser and gently dried my hair on low heat.

Step 4

Finally, to create that slick look, I spritzed Shu Uemura’s Liquid Fabric Mineral Texture Spray into my curls, gingerly scrunching them and smoothing out any frizz near my roots.
