Lisa Michelle and Jasmine Lawrence

The natural hair community is a close knit group and I’m proud to be a member! This has been a great year for me to get even more involved with different events and hair groups, and this past weekend was one of the best I’ve ever had! Not only did I participate in the National Natural Hair Meetup Day in Houston, I was also invited to serve on the Houston Host Committee for the Brunch With EDEN event series. There’s no better way I can think to spend a weekend than with some great curlfriends!

Brunch With EDEN was a fantastic event to celebrate the launch of EDEN BodyWorks new Jojoba Monoi collection of products. Ylorie Anderson, the VP of Marketing for the brand, gave us all more insight into the history of EDEN BodyWorks, the products and great tips for achieving your best hair. Did you know that the company was started by a then 13 year old Jasmine Lawrence? We were also treated to special guest stylist Adrienne Jones sharing tips on styling and maintaining our hair, while Bridgett Joe of Lamik Beauty also surprised us with a great giveaway basket full of great beauty goodies.

I was already familiar with the Peppermint Tea Tree product line, but the new Jojoba Monoi line really piqued my interest. It includes an all natural shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner (my FAVE!”>, hair oil and hair milk. Jojoba is an oil that closely resembles the natural sebum our hair creates and this makes it a great oil to have in your hair products. Monoi de Tahiti also has superb moisturizing attributes and is great in combination with jojoba oil. This super moisturizing line is available at and at Oh and did I mention the deep conditioner is the bomb?!?!

The peaceful surroundings of the Bella Epique Salon created the perfect intimate setting for the brunch, and we had a great time networking and taking pictures! I was among many beautiful ladies as we were welcomed with great food and mimosas, perfect for a sunny afternoon. As we all introduced ourselves, it dawned on me how much the natural hair scene is evolving. There were ladies who had been natural all their lives mingling with transitioners and it was a great interaction. I even picked up some tips for the next time I try a bantu knot out. And of course I loved seeing my favorite natural hair bloggers too! Everyone had a great time and I am so glad I was able to be part of such a lovely group of people.

I especially appreciated the fact that a brand would take the time to invite its consumers to find out more about their products. They are listening to feedback in order to develop better products and are easily accessible to us if we have any questions. Natural hair companies could really stand to learn a thing or two from EDEN BodyWorks and the way they interact with their consumers.

Stay on the lookout, because the Brunch With EDEN tour may be coming to a city near you!
