The beginning of a new year is a time to reflect on the accomplishments of the past year and to set goals for the future. We at NaturallyCurly.com would like to take this opportunity to do both..

2003 was a special year for us. We celebrated our fifth anniversary with a major redesign that adds ease of use and sophistication to the site. We saw another year of increased curl awareness by product manufacturers, the media and salons — whether it be the Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious campaign or the success of CurlTalker Jess McGuinty, who launched her popular Jessicurl line on our site. Perhaps the best proof of this is the increased popularity of perms. ‘Everyone wants curls now,’ said curl guru Ouidad. ‘We straightheads coming in and begging for it.’

We are excited about the prospects for the coming year, which will bring more positive changes and added features at NaturallyCurly.com. We will kick off the year with a major redesign of our product review section, which will be launched later this month. It will be an easy-to-use, dynamic section that will enable our members to see what other readers think of particular products at any given moment.

This month we also launch new columns by Kim Revill and Ouidad. We believe their voices will be a wonderful addition to NaturallyCurly.com. And, as always, we welcome any articles that you would like to write for us. Some of our best content comes from our members.

Also this month, NaturallyCurly.com will begin selling hair care products on Curlmart. Our first will be the Phytospecific line, a line by the Ales Group — makers of Phytologie — that is specially designed for curly and kinky hair. It is our hope that we can add other products to Curlmart, providing our members with an online boutique specifically designed for curlyheads.

In February, Jonathan Torch of Curly Hair Solutions will be heading to Austin from Toronto to do a curly hair clinic and we welcome anyone who wants to attend.

We want to thank our many veteran members who continue to be a vital part of our community and we also celebrate the many new ones who now add their insights and energy to NaturallyCurly.com. We want to thank the more than 500 members who now are ‘Curl Ambassadors’ spreading the message of curl pride from Iceland to Canada to California — and all points in between. We want to especially thank Lisa Goddard — aka Webjockey – for her invaluable input and advice and for the tireless hours she has spent to help us realize our vision.

We look forward to a great year and thank you again for your support.

Gretchen & Michelle
