Mielle Organics' discusses Texture on the Runway style inspiration as well as an exclusive on their latest collection dedicated to type 4 coily naturals.
When you think of every magical black girl's playlist of 2017, what is one album that comes to mind?
For me it is the combination of beautiful melodies, relatable lyrics, and groovy vibes that easily make Solange's A Seat at the Table a top contender every time. We had a blast at this year's Texture on the Runway powered by Sally Beauty, with one of the highlights of the definitely being Mielle Organics' take on the popular hit, Cranes in the Sky. The show was topped off with a lovely harpist and enough golden glitter to make the entire venue full of naturally curly girls sparkle with joy. I just had to get in on the behind the scenes action for more information on the inspiration for the hair care brand's show, led by Mielle Organics' lead hairstylist, Key Glover (@keyessentialshair). Here is what he had to say.
I realized I had a passion for doing hair when I realized that my gift was more than just making money.
It was a talent and a passion that brought purpose to my life. Making other women feel good about themselves fulfills me. It is a source of giving making someone feel better and watching a person transform coming in my salon and leaving feeling great about themselves from the inside out. I have worked with Mielle Organics on many occasions. I am the lead stylist and hair educator for Mielle Organics. I am so excited to be a part of the show.
Solange is very versatile with her hairstyles. She is very free in terms of wearing different hairstyles such as braids, TWA's, or an afro. She is in tune with embracing her natural hair in many different forms and we thought this was the perfect inspiration for our theme.
My grandmother and Madame CJ Walker inspired me.
My grandmother, because she is a multi-talented woman. She encouraged me to think creatively and to use negative energy and put it into my creativity. She encouraged me to be an entrepreneur because she was afraid to be one. Madame CJ Walker is an inspiration because she was the first black beauty millionaire. She had the courage to be innovative in a time where women were not.
My favorite look [of our Texture on the Runway show] is the braided extension pompadour because it gives the woman a bit of edge, a little chic and a whole lot of style.
