Hey, NaturallyCurly world!

I’m Alexandra, one of the NaturallyCurly editors. I have a mix of Type 3b/3c curls, with medium porosity. I big chopped three-years ago and it has been an eye-opening journey learning how to care for my hair in its natural state. One change that has helped my hair become healthier and longer is creating a scalp care routine, it’s truly the foundation for healthy hair. I’ve seen so much growth over the past 6 months from implementing this. I wash my hair about twice a week and use scalp care products every other week, depending on how much build-up I’m experiencing. Here’s what I use to wash, style and refresh to get defined, bouncy and moisturized curls. Don’t forget to watch the video at the end for a step-by-step tutorial. Let’s get to it!

Wash Routine

Step 1: Shampoo with Camille Rose Sweet Ginger Cleansing Rinse

This is a great moisturizing shampoo that keeps my scalp clean without leaving my hair stripped. Not to mention it smells amazing!

Step 2: Condition with Innersense Hydrating Cream Conditioner

Like most curlies, a creamy conditioner is key and this is one of my favorites! I love how soft and defined this conditioner leaves my curls. I detangle my hair with the Curly Hair Solutions Flexy Brush and it’s great to use to clump curls.

Step 3: Towel dry hair with the Hair Remedie Frizz Eliminating Towel

For the longest, I didn’t think it was a big deal to use a microfiber towel to dry my hair until I did it! By using a microfiber towel it helps absorb a ton of excess water from freshly washed hair, eliminates frizz, and enhances natural curl definition.

Step 4: Apply a few drops of Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment

This scalp treatment is great to use after I wash my hair. I apply a few drops to my scalp to restore the balance and hydration in my scalp. It has a cooling sensation and it good to keep on hand to soothe my scalp when it’s itchy or irritated in between washes.

Step 5: Rake through Design Essentials Almond & Avocado Curl Enhancing Mousse

Like you, I grew up hearing that mousses and gels leave hair crunchy and flaky, so I didn’t use either until recently and it has done wonders for adding hold and definition. This mousse is my absolute favorite because it controls frizz, especially in the humid months, adds shine and leaves my curls so bouncy.

Step 6: Apply the Aunt Jackies Curls & Coils Don’t Shrink Flaxseed Elongating Curling Gel

Not only does this gel add definition to my hair, it’s packed with nourishing oils so it leaves my hair soft and moisturized. I rake this gel through my hair, then finger coil a few pieces in the front to add extra definition. If you’re not sure how to finger coil, watch the video below.

Step 7: Finish with the Ouidad Mongongo Oil

This is my secret weapon, yall! This multi-purpose oil is a what I use after I undo my finger coils. It’s the perfect lightweight, finishing oil that adds shine and controls frizz.

Refresh

Step 8: Curly Hair Solutions H20 Water Bottle

This mist water bottle is everything! I use it to refresh my curls in the morning and it is truly a must-have for curlies.

Step 9: Apply the SheaMoisture 100% Virgin Oil Leave-in

When my hair is really dry and in need of some TLC, this is my go-to! It’s a 2-in-1 detangler and leave-in conditioner that can be used to refresh and rehydrate day 3 or 4 curls.

Step 10: Fluff with a pick or the Spriggle

I don’t leave home without my pick. Whenever I’m in need of some extra volume or want to refresh my curls throughout the day, the spriggle always keeps my curls fluffy.
