Oh spring. Warm weather, sunshine and…showers.

Lots of spring showers and rain can be a curly wavy girl’s nightmare! How many times has your hair looked nice and once you left the house the wear caused frizz, unwanted expansion and all other kind of dilemmas? On top of rain, when summer approaches, so will the humidity. The good news is with the right anti-humectant products, your hair can prevail over the wet and humid seasons.

If you are unsure what anti-humectants are, they are essentially moisture blocking products. They help repel moisture in the air from rain and humidity from going into your hair, leading to bad hair days. Think of them as frizz’s nemesis. Anti-humectants work best in the rainy and humid climates but you want to stay clear of overuse in the drier, colder weather, as they can cause your hair to become dry and parched during this time.

Some natural forms of anti-humectants include shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil and olive oil.

Some natural forms of anti-humectants include shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil and olive oil. Other forms of anti-humectants include silicones, esters, hydrogenated castor oil, beeswax and plant triglycerides.

If your favorite styling product has humectants, do not fear!  You can layer any of the above mentioned products underneath and they will form a barrier between your hair and that product so you can get the styling benefits without the excess moisture going into your hair. Or you can check out some of my favorite Anti-humectant products below.
