Watch our NaturallyCurly Editor get music festival-worthy hair for SXSW with TIGI.
Festivals like South by Southwest and Coachella are a fantastic way to experience well-loved bands and discover new music, but we all know the music's only half of the fun. Festival fashion and hairstyles are a growing trend, so NaturallyCurly partnered with TIGI for the SXSW 2013 music festival in Austin, Texas.
Bands, musicians and even a few lucky guests got their hair styled at the TIGI Dry Styling Bar, including NaturallyCurly's own Content Editor, Cristina Cleveland. Watch as her Type 2C hair gets a music festival transformation.
Waves and Braids
Textured hair is actually ideal for the carefree, bohemian looks that are popular at music festivals. Waves and braids are some of the top festival trends, so we asked TIGI to show us how to create the look on Cristina's Type 2C hair.

Imagine how much time you'd save getting ready for a big event if you could just get styled when you get there!

While the stylists worked their hair magic, musicians took the stage including Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Icona Pop, Tegan and Sara, and our personal hair crush, Lianne La Havas!
Lianne La Havas
Naturally curly singer Lianne La Havas was one of the highlights of the showcase for us. We even loved that her backup singer had curly hair too! For more of our SXSW photos (including pictures of Solange!) check out our Facebook photo album.
Start with Braids
Stylist Tasha Grimsley used a couple different styles of braids on Cristina's hair, including hairband braids. She created two small braids using sections of hair from her temple. She fastened the braids using small rubber elastics.
Using strands from the two headband braids, Grimsley then created a short fishtail, and then ended in a regular 3-strand braid (to see how she did this, watch this video).
Use bobby pins to fix any strands that may be sticking out, and to get them looking just right. But remember, you don't want this to look too polished, it's meant to be boho! If you want to add extra curl to your waves then finish off with a curling wand to touch up any waves that are lacking body. This helps especially if you have multiple curl patterns.
