Yolanda cut my hair last week and I couldn't be happier! The cross-cut method mentioned by another user worked to really release my curl without giving me bulk (I am a 3b). And for once I had a stylist LISTEN to what I wanted & NOT try to push hair products or any extra services on me. I also liked the low key atmosphere of the salon and all the reading material although I did not have to wait at all for my appt. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

I went there after reading the comments to get my hair cut. I'm a 3a hair type. My hair was straightened before I walked in the salon. Yolanda actually questioned me if I had curly hair even after I had told her I had straightened it. She washed it and cut it and she still questioned me if I was sure I had curly hair. Sorry, but I know my hair and it has been curly for the past 24 years. Once it started to dry the curls show up...whadda ya know... hmmm... anyway. she sent me on my way. I wasn't too impressed maybe I just caught her on a bad day.

I live in North Carlina, but went to Alburquerque for a conference a few weeks ago. After reading reviews here on NC.com, on a whim, I decided to make an appointment with Yolanda to have my hair cut while I was in Albuquerque. She did an excellent job. The technique, as she explained it, is a cut called the "cross-over cut." Yolanda said that the cut was actually designed for straight hair and it was the way that Jennifer Aniston had her hair cut during Friends -- the *first* way she had it cut. However, Yolanda thought it would work well on curly hair, so she tried it out on herself and found that it did work well on curls. The shape of my hair is wonderful! The next time I get my hair cut, I'm going to try to get my local stylist to use this same cut.

Yolanda is amazing. I found her through a review on this site, and I walked out that first day in shock at how good my hair looked. I had been paying more than twice as much for a haircut that never looked great. And I went to that guy for 10 years because I have had some truly BAD haircuts in my life, and at least he never made it worse. But Yolanda, HOLY COW! She cuts the hair so it ends with a curl, and doesn't hang down in frizzy points. She took about 10 pounds out of the middle of my hair, which you can't see at all but is sooo much cooler and lighter, and allows my hair to spring out naturally without being weighed down. She is familiar with the old triangle-head problem, and cuts the top shorter so it stands out (in a good way- I love my big hair!) She always listens to what I want, and asks me lots of questions to make sure nothing's too short, and tells me what she's doing so I understand why it works. She could double her prices and still be a bargain. Yolanda gets curly hair like no one I've ever met.

I am a 12-year-old boy with curly hair. I like to wear my hair longer sometimes because girls compliment it all the time when I do but not too long because then boys tease me. My hair grows fast so I like to get it cut every 3-4 weeks and Yolanda always take her time and cuts it longer and then asks me if I want it shorter because she likes to joke that she can't put hair back on. I have been to other people who have messed up my hair. By the way the creator of this website walked up to me, my mom, and my sister in Santa Fe this summer and handed us her card and complimented us on our hair because we all have curly hair and we all go to Yolanda.

I have very long, naturally curly hair that can be frizzy and unruly. But you'd never know that because Yolanda knows how to cut my hair to release the curl. Since Yolanda is a curly girl herself, she understands the importance of following the curl when cutting and about how curl shrinks after it dries. Even though I have been going to her for years she still asks each visit what I'm expecting be done and her prices are stupidly reasonable. My daughter (who models and acts in LA), and my son both have curly hair too and neither will let anyone else cut it having learned their lessons the hard way when they've neglected to schedule with Yolanda and gone somewhere else. I am complimented on my hair often and never hesitate to recommend her.
