I had seen Pj today for the first time after hearing about him from a friend. I was more than excited about my appointment, and left even more ecstatic once my hair was highlighted and cut! He gave me plenty of tips and explained what was being done to my hair throughout the experience. I have very flat thin straight hair, that seemed to be thinning, and after shaving parts of my head, it needed some maintenance. He had done an amazing job, and made me feel comfortable for my time there. I recommend him for men and women with curly or straight hair! You need a change of stylists or something exciting and well done to your hair, visit PJ. He's worth it!

After many many years of trying to find someone who cuts curly hair the right way, I stumbled upon this website and found Pj. He has seen me once so far - but by far was the best salon experience for me. My hair was in distress.... I had the worst hair cut experience previously where my hair was layered horrible, causing my hair to be verything, nearly non existent. Pj took his time with me and explained that we have the same goal, but we need to be brave and fix what I do have left. So we did it..... short. Shorter then I have ever gone- but honestly it is a great cut. It feels so healthy and with the new products I am using, my hair looks the best it has ever. I look forward to my future cuts with Pj and plan on highlighting my hair soon. Can not thank him enough for learning the extra things about curly hair to help people such as myself find happiness with what we were given :)

I agree with the previous reviews that PJ's cut and color are good. He takes great pride in his work, and often refers to himself as an "artist". However, like many moms of young children, my alone time is very valuable to me and I very much look forward to the salon experience as much as the end result. While PJ does give you tips, etc, it's not until the very end that you actually see him, as his assistant does all the shampooing, color mixing, and color application. I will not be returning, as I find it to not be good customer service when you show up for your appointment and there are three other women being serviced by him at the same time. For me it was not a good salon experience to be left waiting in the chair, at the sink, in the lobby. I just don't have the 2 1/2+ hours, during which I got to see PJ for 20-25min.

I admit I am a picky hair client! I have had so many bad cuts on colors on my curly hair in the past that now I know what I want & don't want. I found a stylist I loved in New Haven & travelled there for quite some time, but knew it wasn't feasible over the long term & that I had to find someone with expertise in cutting & highlighting curly hair closer to home - no small feat!
I found PJ Lussier on NaturallyCurly.com & decided to give him a try. In 2 visits, I have not been disappointed & have actually been delighted. And not only is he really great at cutting/styling curly hair, he is a GENIUS at haircolor. I can honestly say I've never loved my haircolor more than I do now. It has depth, nuance, shine--everything I ever wanted! I've been coloring my hair for decades, been through a lot of colorists, and P.J. is hands-down the BEST. I am from western MA, and now live in PA and have gone through much trauma with my hair since moving to PA. I was going home for a visit, and after much research on the computer I came across PJ's name and decided to book an appointment. Well let me just say...it was the best decission I could have made! PJ is the best hair stylist I have found in the past 10 years! He really takes his time with you and truly understands curly hair. I thought I would have to have my hair completely chopped off because it was such a mess from my previous haircuts and coloring, but I was wrong. He reshaped my hair and colored it, and now it is much healthier.I was so happy when I left there. Not only is PJ a fantastic hair stylist, but he has a fantastic personality as well. People laugh at me because I research to death everything before I do it. I knew I needed help with my curly hair, I had tried all options I could think of and none gave me the results I was looking for.
I went online and looked for a place that specialized in curly hair and up popped P.J. Lussier! After reading the glowing reviews I took a chance and made an appointment with him.
Never have I been so pleased leaving a salon! He listened to my concerns and totally focused on my hair and what he could do to give me the style I wanted. To see me walk out you'd never know I was the same person who walked in!

I could not agree more with the other reviewers here. After leaving NYC (where I have had both Ouidad and Deva cuts) I despaired of finding a stylist who could manage my hair. I followed the other reviewers' advice and have been going to PJ for a year now. I, like others was originally nervous because he cuts wet, but I understand now that it's because he has the experience and vision to know what your hair will be like when it's dry! There is no formulaic approach here, one cut fits all, it is completely individual to your hair.
After growing out my 90% gray hair, I decided I wanted some color back into it. PJ did a low light effect that looks completely natural, but better. He also styled my hair for a wedding, and created a soft but defined "off the face" look that let my earrings show, which was exactly what I asked for. I am 55, but he also cut and highlighted my very hip daughter's curly hair; she says it's the best cut and color ever.
You will not be disappointed here. PJ listens, he asks questions about what you want and how much time you want to spend on your hair daily, then he trains you to style your hair. I can actually replicate his style at home, a first for me! But you MUST ask for him specifically when you call the salon, I've definitely noticed when I've been there that not all of the stylists there are curl wizards. PJ's assistants Tina and Monique are terrific, too.

I have been going to see PJ for close to 10 years! I have never met a stylist who spends more time, has more knowledge, and genuinely cares about me and making sure I am happy, than PJ. He is a true professional and I love how my hair looks after every visit. I have naturally wavy, red hair which can really get out of control in the humidity. I used to just put my hair in a ponytail throughout the summer because I pretty much gave up on it looking nice. After my first visit with PJ, he transformed my frizzy hair into a masterpiece of beautiful curls. I receive so many compliments from friends and absolute strangers! He works absolute magic! In addition to the beautiful cut, the color he chooses for me is so complimentary. I walk out of the salon feeling absolutely beautiful! I live an hour away, and I would travel twice as far, to see PJ. He is without a doubt, the only stylist you will ever need, because he is, that good.

PJ is the best stylist I have ever had in my life! It has always been difficult to manage. My cut was perfect for the type of hair I have (3C) and his philosophy is to match my hairstyle to my lifestyle. You should definitely request him to cut your hair. Though he is a curly hair expert, he also cuts all types of hair beautifully. PJ's lovely assistant is very patient and relaxing too, as I was nervous seeing him for the first time. I was dreading finding a new hairdresser after moving back to Western MA. I went to PJ as a result of the reviews on this site, and he did not disappoint. I am somewhere between 2c and 3a with medium long, thick, coarse hair. I used to pay a lot of money for Ouidad cuts, but I don't think I was ever as happy with those as I am with PJ's cut. For starters, he knows how to get lift at your crown and eliminates the dreadful floppy dog-ears effect on the sides. And the ease of home styling is far superior to a Ouidad cut. My mom says this is one of the best cuts I've ever had and she's watched me try many, many different methods of cutting and styling.
My curls look great! PJ has good creative vision. He takes the extra time to adjust the cut to how your hair is falling. He is meticulous, yet laid back, which makes the whole experience pleasant. His blow drys are faaaaabulous and he gives great pointers on how to style at home. He's also a great colorist (with the help of his assistant Tina), and I find myself going back as much for the color as I do for the cut.
Pros: Great shape! Creative vision. Meticulous. Personalized treatment. Great colorist. Great finishing style. Super easy to style myself with the help of the super soaker method that you can find on this website.
Cons: Had to trade bigger curls (that I used to have to finger curl myself) for smaller curls. But it makes up for it in ease of styling, and better overall shape and definition.

PJ gave me a great cut. Asked me what I envisioned then gave me advice and he took his time. He is awesome. His assistant Tina is very sweet. She greeted me right away, offered me something to drink and made me aware that she would let PJ know I was there. Only waited a few minutes before I went to meet my new REALLY great hair stylist!!
The salon itself is very nice. Beautiful decor and very clean.

I was previously a customer at Devachan in NYC, then suffered through multiple bad cuts in Western Mass after moving to Longmeadow. (Do most stylists STILL not know how to handle curly hair in 2011?? Evidently not.)
I found PJ through this website, and enthusiastically agree with all of the great things that posters have written about him. He talked with me at length about my cut history, and what products I use, and what I wanted in a cut that day. I felt so comfortable with him, PJ was even able to talk me into a color as well, which I had never done. He cuts hair wet, which made me nervous after my dry cuts at Devachan. But I can't argue with results - my hair (both the cut AND color) were exactly what I wanted. If you're a curly girl in the Springfield area, you won't go wrong in PJ's hands!

I used to hate my hair. I thought I had to perm it, or use a curling iron every day just to get the thick curly hair I wanted. As a result, my hair became dry and straight. When PJ saw me, he knew how to help. He gave me just the right color and cut to make my hair look healthier, thicker and - CURLY!!! He showed me a gentle way to work with my hair to make it look even curlier than I thought possible. I was amazed how "Naturally Curly" my hair was on it's own.

I highly recommend PJ for curly hair. My daughter is 5 years old with very beautiful and naturally curly hair. Previous hairdressers just trimmed it straight across, but PJ understands that it needs to be shaped and balanced. He does a wonderful job, and even shows me how to style it myself at home.
Now he cuts my hair too, and takes the time to listen to how I want it and understands how little time I have to take care of it. He has given me a nice, easy style that I love.
He takes great pride in his work and it shows. I really cannot say enough about him.

I highly recommend PJ for curly hair. My daughter is 5 years old with very beautiful and naturally curly hair. Previous hairdressers just trimmed it straight across, but PJ understands that it needs to be shaped and balanced. He does a wonderful job, and even shows me how to style it myself at home. Now he cuts my hair too, and takes the time to listen to how I want it and understands how little time I have to take care of it. He has given me a nice, easy style that I love. He takes great pride in his work and it shows. I really cannot say enough about him.

I went here recently after reading good things about him, and he lived up to what i hoped for. He colored my hair perfectly and my hair feels and looks healthier. He's also very personable, so it wasn't awkward like it is with some stylist. I have hair between 3a-3b, so curly girlies go for it!
