I love Carmen! She is a curl guru and can always get my hair to be the best curls that I've ever had. She really listens to what you want and spends so much time patiently ensuring that each curl comes out just right. And she's so personable that the time just flies by (hopefully for her too!). I cannot rave enough about her haircuts. Now I just need to perfect her styling method so that I can have better looking curls then I usually end up with on my own. This is the third time I've gone to her and I will continue!

I've followed the Deva methodology for years now, and the last time I had my curly shoulder-length mop cut/shaped was by Lorraine Massey herself in November 2013. I was at the end of my rope with my hair, which is 3b/fine and suffering what seemed to have become a completely unmanageable mass of knots, tangles and breakage. Had had trims from others in my area who touted "Deva training", but nothing ever came anything close to the magic Lorraine had worked on my hair. Then a friend recommended Carmen at Velvet Waves and I finally got in touch and scheduled a visit, sure that the solution was going to be to cut most of it off and resign my curls to "shorties". Carmen took the time and care to persuade me otherwise, and the cut she gave me was in the same league as that I'd had from Lorraine herself - unbelievable care, patience and attention to detail. She also gave me some tips about how to better care for it to avoid the issues I've been having (dry-conditioning at night, etc.). And my locks are once again recognizably mine - the reason I went natural and adopted the Deva system in the first place. Carmen makes a connection -- it's personal, and she takes her time, so don't expect the old "in & out - next!!". The results are worth it, and I can't recommend her highly enough!

I got the Deva cut at this salon. I have 3b/3c hair and thought that she wouldn't be able to fix my hair because of the horrible shape it had grown out into. She did a fabulous job and took her time and really listened to what I said. She took her time and was very nice and friendly. She really helped me appreciate my hair again and will definitely be seeing me again. I love her as a stylist and recommend her to ANYONE who wants to care for their curly hair

Everytime I get my haircut from Carmen, I love it!
She has taught me how to do my hair on my own for the first time in my life.
I never knew what to do with my curly hair or met anyone else who could teach me until I met her.
I never liked my hair until now well I almost like it now depending on the weather of course.
She also cuts all three of my daughters hair too!
She has introduced me to a great hair gel as well that works very nicely.
Because of her knowledge and training with curly hair, I can now feel confident
with my hair for the first time ever!!!

Earlier this year she introduced me to Deva hair care products especially for curly hair and my hair is alot healthier and I finally have beautiful loose curls that I constantly get compliments on.
