Joseph is the only stylist allowed to touch my hair. I've never liked the hairdresser or salon vibe--the emphasis on constant change, on excessive product, and the tendency to denigrate their customers' current looks in hopes of coaxing them into a new style. For years I took care of my own hair and avoided salons. I have very long, thick, 3B hair; it doesn't need much attention to be happy.
Joseph gave me a new perspective on stylists. I can trust him to listen to my input, and to give me a cut that flatters my face, respects my curls, and works for *my* life and my personality. He is not only the owner of the salon, he is an instructor who has been training other stylists for years. He is an artisan with a great respect for his own craft, and I respect that.
Genacelli is a beautiful salon, with an enthusiastic and friendly staff. Their prices are moderate for Chicago and for the neighborhood.
They recently switched from carrying Redken to carrying some other designer lines that are extremely expensive. Of course, I don't buy product there, I get it from naturallycurly.com!
