I have been waiting two years to get my hair cut because I just moved to Maine and am so scared to let someone new cut my hair. A coworker told me about The Estuary and about Julie Washington. I was so scared because I wanted a really short cut and my hair was half way down my back. Julie was AMAZING. She guided me to the most perfect cut I have ever had in my life. I honestly almost cried because I finally, after 32 years, LOVED my hair. This is the hair I have always wanted but never thought I could have. This might sound a little odd but she gave me a beautiful gift and she will be my stylist from now on. She taught me how to style and defuse my hair and recommended great products. Julie was so friendly and easy to talk to and I am so very glad that I met her.
The Estuary was a very cute little salon with a very small town feel to it. Just about everyone that came in the door knew each other which was nice. I am so glad I found this wonderful place!

From Straight to Curly in one cut!!
Throughout the years I have not had great haircuts and have constantly straightened my hair to avoid the frizz. I was fortunate to hear about Julie and booked an appointment. During my booking, Julie asked that I wear my hair the way I try to style it every day and not in a pony tail or a hat.
When I arrived at the salon, Julie took the time to talk with me about my hair - likes and dislikes, level of dedication to my daily hair routine, color, cut, etc.
Well, I left the salon and for once did not go home to wash and restyle my hair and have had many compliments about my hair and people ask where I get my hair cut.
It has been almost 1 year and I have not used my straightener........Thank you will never be enough!!!

From the minute I sat down in Julie's chair, however, I knew I had found someone who "got it". From the first time Julie cut my hair until I moved to North Carolina, Julie remained my stylist. I have had such a difficult time finding a stylist who consistantly gives me a great curly cut since moving to NC, so difficult in fact that when I go home to Maine to visit family I manage to fit in a cut with Julie to correct the oopsies that occur down south.

Julie's been cutting, coloring, and styling my hair for about 6 years now. I have fine, wavy (2A), very porous hair that easily frizzes out in the summer. Julie gives me a versatile, layered cut that lets me blow it out straight or wear it curly. Love the color as well. My husband goes to Julie now, too. He has extremely thick, wavy, wiry hair, so prefers to keep it short. She tames it well. :-) Julie is professional and personable - gracious to clients and fun to be around! She's awesome!

Straight to curly in one hair cut!!
Through the years, I have hated my hair and used a straightener religiously. Whether the cut was short, long or the all too familiar and "not curly friendly" hairdresser favorite "the bob" I was never happy nor had one compliment on my hair. I
found Julie via a mutual friend and booked my first appointment and was nervous to go to another hairdresser for another bad haircut. Well, Julie saved me and my hair and I cannot thank her enough. Julie recommended hair products that are allergy friendly and work with my limited patience for styling. I heard about Julie from my husband! There is an employee at his work who has curly hair, which is beautifully styled, and Julie is her hairdresser. My husband knows the struggles I've had finding a hairdresser who can style my hair in a way that helps me maintain the cut and love it. He asked for Julie's card and I've been going to Julie for the past year and love the stylish cuts that she gives me. What is wonderful about Julie is that she listens to what I want and works with me to give me a cut that I will be happy with. She also has good advice about products that help me maintain the cut. As any of you with curly hair know, it is tough to break in a stylist, let alone find someone who actually has an inkling of what curly hair is all about. I found Julie from this website. I have to say that I have never liked the look of my hair, ever. I have always worn it up. Julie took over and said that I was hiding it because I never had the right cut.
I have never ever had layers, because I thought they were taboo! Julie not only added some layers, she thinned it out. My hair and I still have issues to work out. I feel so lucky to have found Julie! When I moved to Maine, I really struggled to find a stylist who could work with my thick, curly hair. I came across Julie's name on naturallycurly.com and am so glad that I did! Julie knew how to work with my hair right off the bat. She has such talent when it comes to styling my often unpredictable hair. I trust her abilities and suggestions completely and always feel stylish and beautiful when leaving the salon. Julie's been cutting, coloring, and styling my hair for about 6 years now. I have fine, wavy (2A), very porous hair that easily frizzes out in the summer. Julie gives me a versatile, layered cut that lets me blow it out straight or wear it curly. Love the color as well. My husband goes to Julie now, too. He has extremely thick, wavy, wiry hair, so prefers to keep it short. She tames it well. :-) Julie is professional and personable - gracious to clients and fun to be around! She's awesome!

Straight to curly in one hair cut!! Through the years, I have hated my hair and used a straightener religiously. Whether the cut was short, long or the all too familiar and "not curly friendly" hairdresser favorite "the bob" I was never happy nor had one compliment on my hair. I found Julie via a mutual friend and booked my first appointment and was nervous to go to another hairdresser for another bad haircut. Well, Julie saved me and my hair and I cannot thank her enough. Julie recommended hair products that are allergy friendly and work with my limited patience for styling. It took 2 haircuts to loose the bad haircuts from past but now I get compliments all the time and people stop me to ask "Where do you get your hair cut??" Thank you Julie!!! YOU ROCK!!!!

I heard about Julie from my husband! There is an employee at his work who has curly hair, which is beautifully styled, and Julie is her hairdresser. My husband knows the struggles I've had finding a hairdresser who can style my hair in a way that helps me maintain the cut and love it. He asked for Julie's card and I've been going to Julie for the past year and love the stylish cuts that she gives me. What is wonderful about Julie is that she listens to what I want and works with me to give me a cut that I will be happy with. She also has good advice about products that help me maintain the cut. She knows that I would like the experience of movement with my hair, and she takes the time to hand curl my hair in a way that gives it bounce. Finally, I have a stylist who knows what she is doing, is confident in her approach, and makes me feel great about my hair! A little over 4.5 years ago I happened to be strolling in the Old Port and came across Julie Washington. We had instant hair chemistry and I made an appointment with her that day. My hair is very curly and the right cut is essential to it's health and beauty. Julie is the only person I trust with my hair and she has never let me down from day 1. I just returned from having Julie cut my hair based upon the recommendations on this site and I am very pleased with the result. She clearly knows how to cut curls and I don't feel as if my hairs been just chopped up in any way. I highly recommend her as a stylist! I admit, I've hopped on the Julie Washington bandwagon! After several years of getting decent, low-price haircuts and color from another stylist, I tried Julie on a whim before a vacation. Just like all the reviews state, she listened, she observed the nuances of my hair, she patiently explained why the haircuts I'd been getting were the wrong shape for my hair's potential. She suggested - not in a pushy way - another way I could do color to make it look more natural and cover premature graying, without drying up my hair. I have gotten dozens of hair compliments since seeing her. Don't miss this saavy stylist!

Oh the bittersweet joys of curly hair!! Julie is amazing. As any of you with curly hair know, it is tough to break in a stylist, let alone find someone who actually has an inkling of what curly hair is all about. Julie listens to you as you explain your desires for a look you'd like to have and the history of your curly experience. She'll tell you if the style you have in mind will actually work with your specific type of curl. Kudo of all Kudos, she did not force an array of product on me. Although she did give advice of products that she likes and has seen success with. If you're struggling with your curls and wanting to find someone to help you embrace your curls, Julie's your girl!

I found Julie from this website. I have to say that I have never liked the look of my hair, ever. I have always worn it up. Julie took over and said that I was hiding it because I never had the right cut. I have never ever had layers, because I thought they were taboo! Julie not only added some layers, she thinned it out. My hair and I still have issues to work out. HOWEVER, I love the way Julie cuts my hair and how she is honest about the look and style. I will continue to see Julie! I recommend anyone with curly hair to see Julie for a consultation.

She selectively removed alot of the bulk, leaving my hair lighter, softer, and with more curl definition. It was also the first time I didn't have go home to shower and redo my hair!
