I went to see Karyn for the first time ever a few days ago. She is working at the Workshop Salon on Beatty St. (see her site for contact details). Karyn is a vibrant and friendly stylist who made the whole experience very enjoyable! A rare treat for me since as a curly girl, I have had my share of bad salon experiences. Karen took the time to talk to me about what would work best for my curl type and also asked me what I wanted done. We then discussed my options and came to a decision together. As someone with curly hair herself, Karyn really understands what styles and layers work best with curly hair. After looking and discussing my hair while it was dry, she gave me a relaxing shampoo (no sulfates). She then cut my hair while it was wet. After that, she rinsed my hair again and put styling products in it while it was soaking wet. She uses products that are good for curly hair and that do not contain silicones. She then dried my hair using a diffuser. Basically, all the steps that a curly girl loves! :)
