Does PJ write these reviews himself? I went to him based on the reviews here, and left with a pretty bad haircut. First he asked me to leave a review here before he even started cutting my hair, and then he kept telling me how he's so much better than anybody else. The whole experience was unpleasant... I am surprised at the rave reviews he has on this site, and I do wonder if all of them are legitimate.

I have red naturally curly hair that starts at my roots straight, then waves then Goldilocks curls. PJ took my previously awful triangle head haircut and turned it into great amazing hollywood hair. Why is he my favorite? Because he CUTS hair...not a system. He knows every curly hair is different and does NOT use cookie cutter gimmicks. Just a great cut that grows out great. I drive from Boston....yes Boston....which is about an hour and twenty minute drive because no one does it better.

Today I had my second ever appointment with PJ Lussier at Obsessions in East Longmeadow. This man is magical. I was introduced to him through a friend, and we refer to him as "the hair whisperer", and rightfully so. I have always had curly hair, but never appreciated it until he showed me the proper technique to take care of it. He introduced me to a diffuser, and his tips have helped create a much healthier and happier head of hair on me. I was a chronic box color user, and in just two visits he has already toned down the brassy color I've had for ages. He has a real talent for cutting hair without making it look short or choppy, and creating a really nice shape. He really cares about how the final product of your hair turns out. His partner in crime, Bobby Jo, is just as much of a delight as PJ is. Both of them together really care about what they do, which always results in a fantastic final product. It's always a fun and friendly atmosphere once you sit into PJ's chair, and it's an experience every curly head should have at least once in their lives.

After reading all the reviews I had high hopes but was a little skeptical. PJ souns too good to be true but he truly is all that and then some! Impressive, welcoming, non-judgemental, amazing. I keep taking pictures of my hair I am 51 years and it has NEVER looked this good, and all this after only one visit.

Last week I had my first appointment with PJ and he is a game changer! I went to him based on some recommendations from friends with naturally curly hair. Over the years I have always struggled to find a hair dresser that understood how to cut and work with natural curls. He blew me away! He takes the time to take photos for references, asks you lots of questions about your hair and how you take care of it, then recommends what cut/style/products would be best for your needs. Be prepared to spend some time there as he does not rush his work. He is a perfectionist and a true expert. I was so impressed and learned so much about my own hair which I thought I knew everything about. He taught me how I should be applying product, styling, blow drying, etc. You need to go in and trust him and the process and you will be amazed. He is a true professional and artist. I'm so glad I discovered him and wish I had known about him sooner. I can't wait until my next appointment! If you want to see a real expert and see what your hair is capable of and want to look and feel your best, go to PJ! I've been seeing Pj for my curls for over a year now. Each time I go, the more I am convinced that I have finally found someone who knows how to cut my curls. He has encouraged me to change products, opened my eyes to wash techniques, encouraged me to routinely cut my hair. The results? My hair is healthier then ever. It is thick (finally), growing, and curlier then ever. He has without a doubt helped me to see that not all hair is created equal and that there are people out there who know how to help me. I came to PJ originally just because he was so highly recommended on NaturallyCurly, and then stuck with him because he was not just expert at cutting and advising on my curls, but also at helping me figure out how to gracefully go gray at age 32 (it's just become too much freaking work and money to keep up with how much gray there is).
Bottom line: for a bald man, he sure knows his curly hair s#!t. He asks great questions--our first appointment, he spent something like 35 minutes just asking me questions about preferences, experiences, and checking out all aspects of my head. He keeps written notes and refers to them at the beginning of each visit, using them to think about future appointments' length and scheduling.
He's patiently helping me get accustomed to the routines that actually work for my hair, *and* helps me strategize when things that used to work don't anymore. He explains the science of why my hair's doing what it's doing and why he's responding in the way he is.
As with all stylists, of course it's important to stop any preliminary conversation and make sure you're both on the same page if you reach a point where you're not sure you're planning the same approach, but PJ and I are in a groove now and this hair is looking GREAT.

I have been looking for a stylist who knows how to work with curly hair ever since I stopped straightening my hair 3 years ago, and I always ended up with a cut that was way too short or pyramid shaped (or both). But today I had my first haircut with PJ and I loved it for the first time in my history of cuts. I have long tightly curled 3b hair, and PJ was able to retain my length but also shape it really nicely so that it is much more manageable and easier to detangle. I was really impressed with this cut and will definitely be going back to him in the future! I would absolutely recommend him to anyone in the area who has had trouble finding a salon with a stylist who is knowledgable about how to cut curly hair. It's also a much more affordable option than salons that do the Devacut or Ouidad cut.

P.J. is an amazing stylist who, from the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave is thoroughly invested in your experience at the salon and the quality of your hair. He takes the time to sit down with you and carefully examine your hair, share his thought process and vision for your cut or color or style and listens to your questions and concerns. I had a lot of anxiety about getting my hair cut, and after leaving my hair was still a tiny bit wet so it wasn't as "full" as I'm used to, but the morning after when I woke up, a million gorgeous, shiny, perfect curls sprang from my head in all directions. I know I'm gushing, but my hair has never ever looked better. He spends a TON of time carefully cutting individual curls and shaping your hair to be perfect. A visit to P.J. is so worth it and I highly recommend him!

PJ is the best!!!! I decided to book an appointment with PJ after reading all of the reviews on this site and I had my first appointment with him today. I am extremely happy with the way he works and with how my hair turned out. This is literally the best haircut I have ever had. PJ really figured out what my hair needed and how to make it look great. He helped me figure out a length and style that would work for me and then explained his methods throughout the process which was really interesting and helpful. PJ has great customer service and frequently stopped and checked with me to make sure I was comfortable with what he was doing and that I understood where he was going with the look. When he finished I was so surprised because I never knew my hair could look this curly or this amazing. My before and after pictures are like night and day! I am going back again this week to get highlights and I am so excited.

I've been into my curls every since I finally realized that the 80s styles were not going to stay put no matter how much I shellacked my hair. Once I gave in, and accepted my curls, I've never looked back. Unfortunately, it seemed as though most hairstylists disagreed with me. More than once I'd run into one who'd insist that my curls weren't "in" and insisted on blowing them out (for all the good it did-all of 15 minutes worth of straight). I never liked the way I looked with straight hair-it just wasn't me. I have been to a couple of people since then, and while they were okay, I was never ....excited about my haircut after I saw them. That is until I took the advice of one of my colleagues and went to see PJ Lussier at Obsessions salon. All I can say is that he's amazing. I have gotten my hair cut four times now, and each time I leave feeling incredible. He is a perfectionist and understanding how curls should lay. He understands how to get the best cut from the type of curl you have, AND he helps you manage your hair by showing you how to take care of problems like frizz, or what to do to get the curls to have more shape. If you have a TON of hair (as most of us do), he can also "thin" it for you. I still remember the first time he did this-I felt as though I'd lost 5 pounds on my head and there looked to be a small rodent on the floor!
In addition to the actual cut and style (which is always amazing), PJ is probably the BEST colorist I have ever seen. I consistently get compliments on my hair color from those who know me-and those who don't ask where I got my hair colored.
Don't walk-RUN to PJ and make an appointment. It will be worth the time that you invest!!!
AND there's a great aesthetician downstairs who can do waxing and facials the same day!

My life changed drastically a few years ago and I lost touch with PJ. I have just found him again and I will never go to anyone else! Pj knows how to cut the curls according to the curl pattern. Near the end of 2013 I decided that I really wanted to grow out my shoulder length naturally curly hair for my wedding in October 2014. I could picture my hair half up with an amazing pile of perfectly defined curls cascading down my back. In the past I've never been able to grow my hair much past my shoulders before getting frustrated with it poofing out at the bottom. The cuts I've had in the past would have long layers and after a while the layers would start frizzing and bell out on the bottom.
I decided that I needed to find a curly hair specialist in my area that would give great cuts and advice on getting my hair healthier and longer over the next year. I needed someone that would help me make that vision of perfectly cascading curls come true. When I started reading reviews in Western Mass, it became very clear that P.J. was the man for the job.
P.J. lives up to all of the reviews I read. He has a great cutting style that is perfect for curly hair. He knows how to read my hair and has done an amazing job over the past 6 months getting my hair in great shape. He always has new suggestions that continue to improve my hair and allow it to grow long and strong. He advises me on which products to use, how to apply products, how best to blow dry and style, and how to tell what my hair might be needing at any moment in time.
He has been putting highlights in my hair since my second appointment. In the past I have always had a hard time picking a good color for me, but were able to pick a perfect color together. He applies it in a way that makes people, go "wow, your hair looks great" but they don't really notice the highlights. They add the perfect amount of dimension without standing out by looking streaky or obvious. They are perfectly subtle and look amazing. They also do a great job of camouflaging the gray that began a bit more prominent then I would like.
Since I am only four months and two appointments away from the big day, we are going to start working out my wedding hair style. He does not work on up-dos himself, but is recommending one of his salon-mates to style my hair for the big day. I trust him and his recommendation completely and know he will be right there providing his thought and ideas. Having found P.J. so early on, I know my hair is going to be nothing short of amazing in October and my hairdo is something I am not worried about in the least.
I also need to mention his assistant, Bobbie Jo. She is wonderful as well and I'm sure will be amazing on her own when the time comes. If you are looking for an amazing stylist, curly hair OR straight hair, you really need to make an appointment with P.J. He knows his stuff and will not disappoint, I am sure of it.

After reading these reviews about PJ , I had to see him. I am more than happy with his work. He did a fantastic job on mine and my 5 year old daughter's curly hair. PJ took his time to listen and ask questions about our hair. He has so many tips/tricks for curly hair. I was very impressed waking up the day after my appointment and not having to do anything to my hair. PJ just has a way with curly hair. He just gets it. I will only see him from now on. I wont let anyone else touch our hair.

Just got home after having my naturally curly hair colored and cut by PJ. What a mess I was when I walked in!! Not only did I have frizzy, dried out hair, I had taken the sissors to it one day when my curls were just getting to me and really made a mess.
PJ fixed everything!! He worked his magic and when I walked out I looked like a million dollars! I can not say enough about him, all I can say is he is by far the best stylist I have ever had, without a doubt.

Wow!! I have found the first hair stylist to encourage me to appreciate my naturally wavy thick hair. I have always put my hair up or wore barrettes to pull it back. He not only cut it in a style which I love but also took the time to show me how to care for it. What a difference a great cut and color makes! I found PJ through this site over a year ago when he was working at a different salon. I was VERY happy with the way he cut and colored my hair. But, I thought it was too far for me to drive so I decided to stay closer to home. After about a year I decided I needed to seek PJ out again and found he was working at Obsessions. After many 'not so good' cuts and colors I was looking for some much needed help for my unruly, mis-shaped curls and dull color. What I learned is that it is DEFINITELY worth the drive and time to go to PJ for a cut and color. I had an appointment with him yesterday. After ONE cut and color my curls were well on their way to being back to life. Not only did I LOVE my cut and color....but while I was out shopping today a young girl stopped me just to say she really loved my hair!! ONE day after my 'curly cut' and color! Kudos to PJ! I am thrilled to have found my favorite curly stylist ever is now at Obsessions Salon and Day Spa!
After having had supposed curly hair experts (including Ouidad and Deva) in Chicago, New York and elsewhere cut my hair, in my fifty plus years I've never found anyone who listens to the client and personalizes a great and manageable curly cut and style any better than P.J.. For example, on my last visit I told him I wanted to go short, and he was very careful to clarify exactly what length and style I meant by "short" and whether I meant wet or dry, which as any curly girl knows are two entirely different lengths! His color is amazing, too; he made subtle adjustments in my personal lowlight formula which made the end result closer to the shiny medium blonde I was before I was gray.
As a bonus, he's a very positive and down to earth man and interesting to chat with. Once while I was under the lights I listened as he carefully walked someone through the steps it would take to go from her current style to the new style she wanted. He never dissed the woman's previous stylist but pointed out places that would be "more challenging" than others as it grew out. He's tactful, but honest. Plus, if you want he teaches you exactly how to style your cut. You walk out with a great color, cut and style - and a smile, but unlike with some other stylists, the confident feeling about your hair lasts past the first time you shampoo.

I found P.J. Lussier through this site, and I am so happy with his work that I want to make sure that anyone else looking for someone to cut and/or color hair in the greater Springfield MA area can locate him. P.J. is every bit as good as his previous reviews claim. And not only is he really great at cutting/styling curly hair, he has SUPERB haircoloring skillz. Truthfully, I've never loved my haircolor more than I do now. It has depth, nuance, shine--everything I ever wanted! I've been coloring my hair for decades, been through a lot of colorists, and P.J. is hands-down the BEST. He listens to me, he takes me seriously, and he gives great input. He's a true, dedicated professional. Oh, and BTW--he cuts straight hair, too!

I have been looking for a stylist who knows how to work with curly hair ever since I stopped straightening my hair 3 years ago, and I always ended up with a cut that was way too short or pyramid shaped (or both). But today I had my first haircut with PJ and I loved it for the first time in my history of cuts. I have long tightly curled 3b hair, and PJ was able to retain my length but also shape it really nicely so that it is much more manageable and easier to detangle. I was really impressed with this cut and will definitely be going back to him in the future! I would absolutely recommend him to anyone in the area who has had trouble finding a salon with a stylist who is knowledgable about how to cut curly hair. It's also a much more affordable option than salons that do the Devacut or Ouidad cut.

P.J. is an amazing stylist who, from the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave is thoroughly invested in your experience at the salon and the quality of your hair. He takes the time to sit down with you and carefully examine your hair, share his thought process and vision for your cut or color or style and listens to your questions and concerns. I had a lot of anxiety about getting my hair cut, and after leaving my hair was still a tiny bit wet so it wasn't as "full" as I'm used to, but the morning after when I woke up, a million gorgeous, shiny, perfect curls sprang from my head in all directions. I know I'm gushing, but my hair has never ever looked better. He spends a TON of time carefully cutting individual curls and shaping your hair to be perfect. A visit to P.J. is so worth it and I highly recommend him!

PJ is the best!!!! I decided to book an appointment with PJ after reading all of the reviews on this site and I had my first appointment with him today. I am extremely happy with the way he works and with how my hair turned out. This is literally the best haircut I have ever had. PJ really figured out what my hair needed and how to make it look great. He helped me figure out a length and style that would work for me and then explained his methods throughout the process which was really interesting and helpful. PJ has great customer service and frequently stopped and checked with me to make sure I was comfortable with what he was doing and that I understood where he was going with the look. When he finished I was so surprised because I never knew my hair could look this curly or this amazing. My before and after pictures are like night and day! I am going back again this week to get highlights and I am so excited.

I think I'm going to start calling him "the curl whisperer!" I just had my first haircut with P.J. Lussier . . . the man is AMAZING! He took the time to get to know my hair, ask about my current use of products, did not push products, and gave me several tricks and tips to styling my hair. I left looking beyond amazing!! I can't recall EVER leaving a salon so incredibly satisfied with the outcome! I am returning in two weeks for highlights and counting down the days! All you curly girls in Western Massachusetts NEED to make an appointment with P.J. Lussier, you will not be disappointed!!

I've been into my curls every since I finally realized that the 80s styles were not going to stay put no matter how much I shellacked my hair. Once I gave in, and accepted my curls, I've never looked back. Unfortunately, it seemed as though most hairstylists disagreed with me. More than once I'd run into one who'd insist that my curls weren't "in" and insisted on blowing them out (for all the good it did-all of 15 minutes worth of straight). I never liked the way I looked with straight hair-it just wasn't me. I have been to a couple of people since then, and while they were okay, I was never ....excited about my haircut after I saw them. That is until I took the advice of one of my colleagues and went to see PJ Lussier at Obsessions salon. All I can say is that he's amazing. I have gotten my hair cut four times now, and each time I leave feeling incredible. He is a perfectionist and understanding how curls should lay. He understands how to get the best cut from the type of curl you have, AND he helps you manage your hair by showing you how to take care of problems like frizz, or what to do to get the curls to have more shape. If you have a TON of hair (as most of us do), he can also "thin" it for you. I still remember the first time he did this-I felt as though I'd lost 5 pounds on my head and there looked to be a small rodent on the floor!
In addition to the actual cut and style (which is always amazing), PJ is probably the BEST colorist I have ever seen. I consistently get compliments on my hair color from those who know me-and those who don't ask where I got my hair colored.
Don't walk-RUN to PJ and make an appointment. It will be worth the time that you invest!!!
AND there's a great aesthetician downstairs who can do waxing and facials the same day!

I wish there were more than 5 stars...I am so happy I did my homework and found PJ! He is amazing and his knowledge is extensive with curly hair. He is the "Hair Whisperer". If you have curls of any type he is the one to see. Just did the cut last week and am going back this week to do the color. I cannot wait to see the outcome of that too. THANKS PJ!

My life changed drastically a few years ago and I lost touch with PJ. I have just found him again and I will never go to anyone else! Pj knows how to cut the curls according to the curl pattern. I love my curlyhair again thank to PJ. He is excellent at coloring too! I have receive many compliments on my hair color and I have finailly found the right color for my skin tone. I had PJ blow out my hair for a party and I got sooo many compliments. They said I looked classy, loved the color and that my hairstylist really knows what he is doing! Thanks PJ

Near the end of 2013 I decided that I really wanted to grow out my shoulder length naturally curly hair for my wedding in October 2014. I could picture my hair half up with an amazing pile of perfectly defined curls cascading down my back. In the past I've never been able to grow my hair much past my shoulders before getting frustrated with it poofing out at the bottom. The cuts I've had in the past would have long layers and after a while the layers would start frizzing and bell out on the bottom. I decided that I needed to find a curly hair specialist in my area that would give great cuts and advice on getting my hair healthier and longer over the next year. I needed someone that would help me make that vision of perfectly cascading curls come true. When I started reading reviews in Western Mass, it became very clear that P.J. was the man for the job. P.J. lives up to all of the reviews I read. He has a great cutting style that is perfect for curly hair. He knows how to read my hair and has done an amazing job over the past 6 months getting my hair in great shape. He always has new suggestions that continue to improve my hair and allow it to grow long and strong. He advises me on which products to use, how to apply products, how best to blow dry and style, and how to tell what my hair might be needing at any moment in time. He has been putting highlights in my hair since my second appointment. In the past I have always had a hard time picking a good color for me, but were able to pick a perfect color together. He applies it in a way that makes people, go "wow, your hair looks great" but they don't really notice the highlights. They add the perfect amount of dimension without standing out by looking streaky or obvious. They are perfectly subtle and look amazing. They also do a great job of camouflaging the gray that began a bit more prominent then I would like. Since I am only four months and two appointments away from the big day, we are going to start working out my wedding hair style. He does not work on up-dos himself, but is recommending one of his salon-mates to style my hair for the big day. I trust him and his recommendation completely and know he will be right there providing his thought and ideas. Having found P.J. so early on, I know my hair is going to be nothing short of amazing in October and my hairdo is something I am not worried about in the least. I also need to mention his assistant, Bobbie Jo. She is wonderful as well and I'm sure will be amazing on her own when the time comes. If you are looking for an amazing stylist, curly hair OR straight hair, you really need to make an appointment with P.J. He knows his stuff and will not disappoint, I am sure of it.

After reading these reviews about PJ , I had to see him. I am more than happy with his work. He did a fantastic job on mine and my 5 year old daughter's curly hair. PJ took his time to listen and ask questions about our hair. He has so many tips/tricks for curly hair. I was very impressed waking up the day after my appointment and not having to do anything to my hair. PJ just has a way with curly hair. He just gets it. I will only see him from now on. I wont let anyone else touch our hair.

PJ is by far a master of cutting curly hair! I found him via this website and I am so glad. I am serious he is the God of cutting curly hair. He puts his heart in soul into his work and provides you with amazing tips for making your hair look the best so you not only look amazing when you leave, but can look amazing every day. I have had many many stylists in my lifetime and PJ is by far a head full of curls above the rest. If you live in Western Mass and have curly locks you need to see him. He is attentive, kind and an expert in his field. Say goodbye to frizz and hello to amazing hair once PJ gets his hands in it! Oh and big kudos to Bobby Joe his assistant she rocks too!

P.j. is by far the best hair stylist I have found for my naturally curly hair! After two cuts and advice on repairing and controlling my hair- my hair looks the best it has ever been. Simple adjustments to my routine and products, along with an excellent cut- my hair looks so healthy and on it's way to being the best it can be. I also trusted him to highlight my hair- and can not be more happy with it. After so many bad cuts and colors, I am so relieved to have found P.j. to help me find beauty in what I was given. Just got home after having my naturally curly hair colored and cut by PJ. What a mess I was when I walked in!! Not only did I have frizzy, dried out hair, I had taken the sissors to it one day when my curls were just getting to me and really made a mess. PJ fixed everything!! He worked his magic and when I walked out I looked like a million dollars! I can not say enough about him, all I can say is he is by far the best stylist I have ever had, without a doubt. If you looking for someone who will take the time to work with you and explain things, he's your man. You will not be sorry, I promise!

Wow!! I have found the first hair stylist to encourage me to appreciate my naturally wavy thick hair. I have always put my hair up or wore barrettes to pull it back. He not only cut it in a style which I love but also took the time to show me how to care for it. I would recommend him to anyone and I actually have to anybody who made comments about how good my hair looks now.

What a difference a great cut and color makes! I found PJ through this site over a year ago when he was working at a different salon. I was VERY happy with the way he cut and colored my hair. But, I thought it was too far for me to drive so I decided to stay closer to home. After about a year I decided I needed to seek PJ out again and found he was working at Obsessions. After many 'not so good' cuts and colors I was looking for some much needed help for my unruly, mis-shaped curls and dull color. What I learned is that it is DEFINITELY worth the drive and time to go to PJ for a cut and color. I had an appointment with him yesterday. After ONE cut and color my curls were well on their way to being back to life. Not only did I LOVE my cut and color....but while I was out shopping today a young girl stopped me just to say she really loved my hair!! ONE day after my 'curly cut' and color! Kudos to PJ! He knows curls!! Seek him out for your curls....you'll be glad you did!!

I must say I don't think I was ever completely satisfied with a haircut until I met PJ over 10 years ago. He always takes the time to do the most outstanding job. I have curly hair that most stylists don't know how to work with properly, but PJ does. He was referred to me by a friend who has been to many stylists in Manhattan, NY, and I certainly don't hesitate to refer him to anyone I know as well.

I have been looking all over for a great stylist, then I found PJ! He makes me feel comfortable, and talks to you about your hair before he cuts it! He totally knows what I'm talking about when I tell him the issues I have with my hair:-) not only does he know how to cut he definitely knows color, I have the most beautiful highlites I've ever seen!! I am thrilled to have found my favorite curly stylist ever is now at Obsessions Salon and Day Spa! After having had supposed curly hair experts (including Ouidad and Deva) in Chicago, New York and elsewhere cut my hair, in my fifty plus years I've never found anyone who listens to the client and personalizes a great and manageable curly cut and style any better than P.J.. For example, on my last visit I told him I wanted to go short, and he was very careful to clarify exactly what length and style I meant by "short" and whether I meant wet or dry, which as any curly girl knows are two entirely different lengths! His color is amazing, too; he made subtle adjustments in my personal lowlight formula which made the end result closer to the shiny medium blonde I was before I was gray. As a bonus, he's a very positive and down to earth man and interesting to chat with. Once while I was under the lights I listened as he carefully walked someone through the steps it would take to go from her current style to the new style she wanted. He never dissed the woman's previous stylist but pointed out places that would be "more challenging" than others as it grew out. He's tactful, but honest. Plus, if you want he teaches you exactly how to style your cut. You walk out with a great color, cut and style - and a smile, but unlike with some other stylists, the confident feeling about your hair lasts past the first time you shampoo. Obsessions is conveniently located at the rotary in East Longmeadow and has plenty of parking in the back. I'm looking forward to trying some of their other services too. I found P.J. Lussier through this site, and I am so happy with his work that I want to make sure that anyone else looking for someone to cut and/or color hair in the greater Springfield MA area can locate him. P.J. is every bit as good as his previous reviews claim. And not only is he really great at cutting/styling curly hair, he has SUPERB haircoloring skillz. Truthfully, I've never loved my haircolor more than I do now. It has depth, nuance, shine--everything I ever wanted! I've been coloring my hair for decades, been through a lot of colorists, and P.J. is hands-down the BEST. He listens to me, he takes me seriously, and he gives great input. He's a true, dedicated professional. Oh, and BTW--he cuts straight hair, too!
