Wavy Hair Makeover with L’Oreal Paris EverCurl
Behind the Scenes
We went behind the scenes at the L’Oreal Paris EverCurl video shoot and interviewed both naturally wavy model Julia and L’Oreal Paris expert stylist Johnny Lavoy on their techniques for healthy, beautiful wavy hair.
Julia’s Wavy Hair Journey
NC: Have you always worn your hair curly?
Julia: No. Sometimes I straighten it, but sometimes I wear it wavy. I like the variety!
NC: What have your biggest challenges been?
Julia: Keeping the frizz tamed. During the summer, it is really hard for me to wear it down because it gets really frizzy and big.
Wavy Hair Challenges
NC: What types of products does your hair like best?
Julia: Anything that gives it moisture. Any kind of deep conditioning treatment and shine spray, things that make it moisturized and healthy.
NC: What’s your go-to curly styling technique?
Julia: After shampooing, I will deep-condition my hair. I brush my hair while I’m in the shower, and not afterwards when it is drying to keep some of the natural wave. Then when I get out of the shower, I’ll use a soft-hold gel so it doesn’t get crunchy looking, but still holds the wave.
Julia’s Wavy Makeover
L’Oreal Paris brought in their consulting hair expert Johnny Lavoy to give Julia’s waves an EverCurl makeover. Here’s what he had to say!
NC: What does this model’s hair need?
Lavoy: Although Julia’s hair is wavy, her curl pattern is stronger in some places than others. We want to unify her curl pattern by letting it dry naturally and defining the waves with our Silk & gloss Dual OilCare products. She has a lot of course hair, so she needs lots of hydration. We want to saturate and penetrate the hair with our Hydracharge conditioner to moisturize it.
NC: What’s your top tip for styling wavy hair?
Lavoy: Let hair dry naturally after applying your L’Oreal products and DO NOT manipulate it. People make the mistake of trying to scrunch the hair when it is drying and it only creates frizz. If you don’t have time to let it dry naturally, get a diffuser.

NC: Which products do you recommend for wavy hair?
Lavoy: For women with wavy hair, I recommend using a suite of products: The Hydracharge Shampoo and Conditioner as well as the Silk & Gloss Dual Oil Care. This system provides 48 hours of frizz control, curl definition and is also infused with Hibiscus and Grapeseed oil which locks in intense moisture.

NC: How did EverCurl help solve your hair challenges?
Julia: EverCurl helped add a lot of shine and hydration to my hair. It also helped with controlling the volume and making it smooth and soft.
NC: What tip did you learn that you’re going to try at home?
Julia: When I wash my hair and let it air-dry, I’m just going to leave it alone and not touch it so the waves stay smooth and natural.
