Coily Hair Makeover with L’Oreal Paris EverCurl
Behind the Scenes
We went behind the scenes at the L’Oreal Paris EverCurl video shoot and interviewed both naturally coily model Camille and L’Oreal Paris expert stylist Johnny Lavoy on their techniques for healthy, beautiful coils and curls.
Camille’s Natural Hair Journey
NC: Have you always worn your hair curly?
Camille: I used to relax my hair and straighten it all the time. Now that I’m curly, it is more fun, more fitting for me, and makes me stand out. I decided to stop relaxing my hair because I wanted to see what it was in it’s natural state- It was very freeing, and very me.
NC: What have your biggest challenges been?
Camille: It is so thick- which I love, but when it comes time to style it, it takes forever. If I want it to look nice at all, it is an all day process. So if there was a way to get rid of the frizz and make it big- but not too big, that would be great.
Coily Hair Tips
NC: What types of products does your hair like best?
Camille: My hair is very dry, so products that add a lot of moisture and make it easier to style and manage. Any kind of cream!
NC: What’s your go-to curly styling technique?
Camille: I just use a basic shampoo, I don’t always condition, which is probably bad- but I blow it out and do a two-strand twist with a basic hair gel or just slick it back in a ponytail if I don’t want to deal with it.
Camille’s Coily Makeover
L’Oreal Paris brought in their consulting hair expert Johnny Lavoy to give Camille’s coils an EverCurl makeover. Here’s what he had to say!
NC: What does this model’s hair need?
Lavoy: Camille has amazing natural coils, but they have the tendency to be extremely dry and prone to breakage.
NC: What’s your top tip for styling coily hair?
Lavoy: Because of the amount of cuticle layers in tight coily hair, moisture has a hard time penetrating it. So you really want to get a ton of moisture in there to make it soft and manageable. Also, let it dry naturally after applying your L’Oreal products and DO NOT manipulate it. That only creates frizz. If you don’t have time to let it dry naturally, get a diffuser.
Camille’s Coily Makeover
NC: Which products do you recommend for coily hair?
Lavoy: For women with coily hair, I recommend using the Hydracharge Cleansing Conditioner, Hydracharge Conditioner, Hydracharge Leave-in Cream, and finishing with the Hydracharge Sculpt & Hold Cream-Gel. This system gently removes product build-up, provides curl definition and prevents breakage to help grow long strong coils! The system, is also infused with Hibiscus and Grapeseed oil, which locks in intense moisture.

Apply a generous amount of the EverCurl Hydracharge Conditioner, 2 to 3 handfuls. Starting at your ends and work your way up. For longer and thicker hair use 4 to 5 handfuls. While conditioner is on hair detangle with a wide-toothed comb or finger detangle.

Step 3
Apply Hydracharge Leave-in Cream to soaking wet hair in sections, dispense 1-2 pumps on each section, and do not rinse. This product provides intense hydration and prevents breakage. The ultra rich formula feeds coils with moisture and nurtures each coil’s elasticity and shape.
Step 4
Apply 1-2 pumps of the Sculpt & Hold Cream-Gel to each section. Apply by smoothing cream-gel from root to tip until your coils clump together. This product provides definition and hold.
Step 5
Let coils air dry or blow dry with a diffuser on the cold setting.
The results!
We thought Camille’s coils looked gorgeous, and we got to ask what she thought of them too:
NC: How did EverCurl help solve your hair challenges?
Camille: It definitely got rid of the frizz. It made it way shinier, more manageable, and softer to the touch. The curl is definitely more defined and it just looks better.
NC: What tip did you learn that you’re going to try at home?
Camille: I will definitely be trying the products at home. I learned that I can just put on the Cream-Gel after washing it, two strand twist it, untwist it, and it will look like this!
