My name is Ellouise aka CurlyEllaBella. I’m from London, England, I am currently working as a civil servant. Whenever I am not at work, you can usually catch me vlogging or updating instagram with my latest hair and beauty purchases. I started relaxing my hair in 2005 and I continued to do so for many years. My hair became so damaged and short from all the breakage and straightening that I decided one day that enough was enough!

In 2009, I made the decision to stop putting chemicals in my hair, although I still used to use a ridiculous amount of heat on my hair everyday. I decided to completely stop using heat on my hair in 2013 and fully embraced my natural hair and I have been seeing amazing results ever since.

Seeing all the damage I had done to my hair was enough to encourage me to make a change, however I still didn’t really know exactly how to take care of my hair. I started watching YouTube and I discovered SunKissAlba— She was the first natural hair blogger I had ever watched on YouTube and straight away I felt inspired to really think about the way I was treating my hair and the type of products I was using.

I live in Croydon and there is a local shop called Sabina’s where they have a huge range of products specifically for natural hair. I absolutely adore SheaMoisture, it was the first product I used aimed at natural hair and immediately I felt a difference. I am a big fan of Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-In Conditioner and it is a firm favourite of mine. Another product I cannot go without is Neutrlab Cocoa Curl High Definition Moisture Gel, my curls are in love with this product!

For defined curls, I always tie my hair into a pineapple on the top of my head and I wrap a satin scarf around it.

My biggest piece of advice for fellow curlies is seriously limit the amount of heat you are putting on your hair–you don’t want your curls to be loose and lose that all important bounce. The second tip is make sure your hair is protected at night, so that means a satin pillow case or headscarf to prevent breakage around the edges of your hair and maintain that all important moisture. Lastly, protective styles will reduce the amount of manipulation your hair endures on a daily basis and will ensure that your hair retains length and continues to grow.
