We’re crawling out of the dark hole where we’ve been binge watching Orange is the New Black to come up for food and water, and to let you know that Uzo “Crazy Eyes” Aduba won the Critics’ Choice award for Best Guest Performer in a Comedy. Uzo of course looked smashing on the red carpet, sans signature bantu knots, and we’re happy to say you can get the braided crown look yourself.
Celebrity stylist, Jamika Wilson, created the regal, braided crown “we were going for a very royal, Grecian-goddess look. I wanted the hair to look like a crown to complement the gold vintage dress.” While the style is certainly regal, it is actually very simple to recreate for work or your next formal event.
Here’s how Jamika created the look.
Get the Look
- CLEANSE Start with clean, dry hair with a moisturizing cleanser like Motions Natural Textures Moisturizing Cleanser
- CONDITION Use Motions Nourish Leave-In Conditioner to detangle and add moisture to the hair and blow dry
- TREAT Work Motions Define My Curls Crème into the hair to smooth ends and create a deep side part
- FINISH Create a crown by twisting hair in an upward motion and secure with a hairpin. Set with Motions Light Hold Working Spritz. Watch this video to see how to create a braided crown.
- STYLE Gently tug on the twist to loosen the hair slightly and add Motions Shine Enhancing Pomade to smooth edges and finish with Motions Hold & Shine Spray
