Meet Kami, our Integrated Media Account Manager! She has beautiful, healthy 4B hair that is ALWAYS on point every day she comes into the office. Of course, we had to ask what her routine was so we could do our best to replicate the great results she gets everyday on her coily TWA.

I am not a morning person.

When going natural, I had visions of setting my alarm clock for obscene hours just to wrangle my hair into something presentable. Luckily, I’ve found that managing my 4B hair in the morning can be quick and easy.

Nighttime Routine

My favorite looks all originate from a two strand twist-out that I do in the evening. At night, I’ll fill my spray bottle with a mixture of water, a touch of Lotta Body for hold, and an oil such as African Healing Oyl from Taliah Waajid. I like to pin-curl each twist for additional definition.

Morning Routine

In the morning, I unpin and untwist my hair. I like to use a small dollop of Miss Jessie’s Multicultural Curls to separate my twists and pull them where I’d like them to be. I also put a little oil on my fingertips, place them at my roots, and fluff to make my hair a little fuller.

Sometimes, you wake up and that cute twist-out from the day before has been lost to the sands of time.

My Second-Day Hair Secret

To reawaken second-day hair, I’ll apply a curl refresher spray such as Obia Curl Hydration Spray. I’ll do some fluffing with my fingers and head out the door.

My Go-To Style

The Faux Hawk

Sometimes, you wake up and that cute twist-out from the day before has been lost to the sands of time. If that’s the case, I’ll jump in the shower. My hair loves the steam–it retains the wave from the twist-out but in a much looser pattern. While my hair is still damp, I’ll apply a leave-in – my favorite right now is the Eden Bodyworks Coconut Shea. I’ll pull the hair in the front downward towards my face. Then, I grab a section on the left side, twist it a couple times against my head, and pin it down with bobby pins. I do the same for the right side.

This creates one of my favorite looks–a big, afro-y textured faux-hawk.

The Wash and Go Fro

Another favorite look is a wash and go curly ‘fro. I jump in the shower and apply a conditioner to lock in moisture. My favorite is the Unwash Masque. I’ll go through the rest of my shower steps and rinse the conditioner out last, complete with a quick finger detangle.

Once I’ve dried my hair with a t-shirt, I apply my favorite wash-and-go tools–Darshana Natural Indian Hair Oil and the Ouidad Curl Recovery Whipped Curls Daily Conditioner and Styling Primer. The oil keeps my hair moisturized and the Ouidad gives my curls definition and shape. Sometimes, I’ll even pull back the hair around my face and pin it back like a headband. Then I’m out the door.

Morning maintenance for the 4B girl can be fast and easy –it’s all about finding your personal style and having fun with your ‘do.
