I’m an avid blog and forum reader and I have come across so many posts of newly natural women saying they were frustrated with their natural hair and the reactions they were getting from friends and family. Due to their frustration, they were thinking about going back to chemical relaxers.

Although many women would reply to the post and offer suggestions on how to take care of their new found curly mane, the original poster would sometimes reply back saying they got a relaxer and regretted their decision.

I always wanted to make a video about this issue, but I didn’t know how I wanted to present it. I got my answer one day as I was styling my hair. Solange Knowles’ song “T.O.N.Y.” came on my iPod. As I started singing the song’s chorus, “If it wasn’t for Tony,” the idea for my spoof “C.R.E.A.M.Y.” which stands for Chemical, Relaxer, Envy, And the, M iseducated, You just popped into my head.

I went over the idea with my sister (who was originally supposed to sing the song”> and she loved it. I asked a couple of my friends if they would make cameos in the video and they also agreed.

I’m very happy that so many people enjoyed the video (with the exception of the vocals LOL”>. I had no idea so many natural women would relate to it, but I’m glad that it provided inspiration as well and entertainment to many.

As long as women continue to embrace their natural hair, it is my belief that others will have no choice but to do the same.
